Transfer Rumour Hayden Hackney

Watched him a few times for Boro and England under21
He is a good player, gets about the pitch well and looks for a pass forward.
If we can get him i would go for it.

Nothing wrong with getting him.

Issue is playing him.

And the fact his position isn't a critical one to fill.

I'll say it now - Harry Wilson would be a disastrous signing.

Yes, he scored a load this season, but he pretty much doubled his xG. Everything he hit went in. He's 29, looking for his last big payday and he's never posted anything like the sort of numbers he did this season before.

He contributes v little from open play and his game is basically having a good left foot and taking a decent set piece - we may as well keep McNeil. His massive over-performance this season reminds me of Sandro and the daft wages we gave him.
Here’s the thing though - we could sell McNeil for maybe £15 million and get Wilson on a free.

An upgrade on McNeil and a profit too. Would still need another winger like.

I think he’ll go and be a squad player at somewhere like Villa though.

Agree with this 👍

But he's a few years older than McNeil and he wants about £150k per week apparently. We might bank a transfer fee, but we'd never be able to shift Wilson because of the wages if/when we realised he was massively overrated

Would be a good signing I think.

Would mean we'll have a surplus of CMs though, suspect one or more of Gana/ Tim/Charles to be off.
I think Alcaraz definitely off. Iroegbunam probably too. Both of them only have a year left on their deals and it makes sense to make decisions about them this summer.

Gana will be about whether he's happy being a bit-part player or not. I suspect not, but we'll see.

….i’ve also posted in the past year or so that we do look strong in CM, with a good transition from Gueye to Garner, KDH, Iroegbunam & Armstrong. Saying that, it’s always the objective to bring in better than you have, especially when considering blend, balance etc.

Gueye will leave a big void whenever he departs, I think that might be a little underestimated.

It's not a bad strategy to sign the Championship player of the season as there has been some good players who have won that down the years.

If there is outgoings in midfield then this makes sense but we need to have a plan for Armstrong and we can not harm his development by creating a log jam in his position.
Im sure he will be shuttling to PNE for the next three years...it is what we do.
