The thing is even if we do get new investment the other big clubs would just match us 2-1 in dollars. Look at our team now, its way better than the 04-05 club, we have depth and a better starting 11. If we get the investment and now we have an extra 20M for Mutinho then the big clubs would just buy 3 20M players. Even Arsenal is spending money now.

I think Moyes has the right idea. Having players to buy is one thing but its more important to be able to keep the players that you have. Look at Spurs, they have alot more money than we have but keep buying and selling like there is no tomorrow, and no player is really sure what their role on the team is.
Pretty much agree with all of this. We could definately need some new investment, but really believe David Moyes is following the right path.

Recent reports say £10m.

We were offering £11m and £12m and with most not upfront.

He has a release clause in his contract for £19m - I think thats were you have £20 million from.

We had our valuation of him which didn't match theirs. If we bid £15m, you honestly think they would have rejected it?

So you think Mbia would command £15m+ ?

We'll never know. He certainly was preferred over M'bia, otherwise we would have signed M'bia, it really is that simple.

That to me suggests we wouldn't have paid the money quoted for Moutinho?

Who knows?

Rennes didn't want to sell, they made that clear quite a few times. There wasn't even a valuation for him, he simply wasn't for sale. Mbia also said he would not upset them, he would not push for a move even though he was desperate to leave. Rennes dictated how they wanted things and they kept there man.

“We remain determined to retain Stephane Mbia. I repeat this decision is firm and final.”

The Echo also made it clear that after Moutinho, Mbia was our top transfer target. There wasn't any news about Fellaini bar at the end of the season before and obviously the last few days of the transfer market when we eventually signed him.

No one can say whether or not Mbia would've even been sold for 15 million to be honest, not you or me. He seems to be a very highly rated player, Arsenal where interested and didn't get him either. I couldn't say, I've only seen him play once and that was for Cameroon.

Our first reported intrest of Fellaini was in January and the Standard leige chairman is quoteted as saying he turned down a bid form Everton in March, if we put an offer (which was rejected) in March its hardly a last minute thing.

Personaly i think Moyes wanted Mouthino and Mbia as a package, im not sure Mouthino was nesecarily out of reach. I think Moyes's priority was for height and stature and perhaps pluming for Mbia for 8 mill meant he could have a crack at Mouthino too with his budget.

The fact we couldnt get Mbia in the end meant that Moyesie had to shell out on the more expensive option in Mofro and miss out on Mouthino, i think this explains much of the haste.

Nuff said.

Disagree. We bid in March and April.

Liege had their price. We would have offered a decent fee and after being rejected, Moyes would have hoped they would reduce their fee and get back.

Clearly, that never happened. Moyes must have thought he was worth the amount we paid.

Dont see how they pulled our pants down

I'm pretty sure, it was reported on the Kipper forum that we were interested in signing Fellaini during the January 2008 window. You're right, we did bid for him before the summer and it was even on the Belgian Ceefax. A few days later, it even was reported that Real Madrid kept a close eye on him, as they saw a terrific value for money youngster in him.

And Chelsea...

His words, not mine. I didn't say he wasn't on our radar, I said he wasn't number one priority and I think it's quite clear that he wasn't. Unless Moyes is lying?

Managers scout and watch the progress of many potential signings, that's only natural. I'm sure Fellaini was a player Moyes was watching.

"We had other targets but for different reasons things didn’t quite work out,” said Moyes.

But this was the one that we wanted and I’m really happy. We are all looking forward to seeing him in action.

"Our interest hasn't only just materialised, we have been chasing him for two years and keenly watched his development."

Maybe in 20 years, when Moyes writes his lifestory, maybe then the truth will come out.

Day 576886 of the transfer window :

Bill is being a c***. Says he wont bid anymore than £20 for Moutinho. Guess im going to have buy this Tall fella from Belgian. I hate Bill.

You didn't read any of my posts did you?

Read them and take it in my friend. I feel I've hit a few nerves in this thread and people are trying to paint me as a "Fellaini basher" again.

I'm an easy target it seems. Jermaine Pennant was a target for Real Madrid.:D

Key Pharses:

"“They can’t maintain the situation they have got".

“And they have got to be able to get more fans in."

“It does surprise me the FA Cup was the last thing Everton won considering the squad they have"

They can’t maintain the situation they have got".
It is a bad time for investment, really can't see where the money is going to come from.
(BK: Every year it becomes more difficult to find the money. It is impossible to continue in the financial way we are at the moment)

Don't agree that we need 5 or 6 more top players, would be nice, another star and a few loan deals would do (Saha deal was smart business)

“And they have got to be able to get more fans in."
Not an immediate issue

“It does surprise me the FA Cup was the last thing Everton won considering the squad they have had over the last five or six years "
A bit harsh, the cup has been won almost every year by a top 4 team since 1995. The squad has continually developed under Moyes, especially over the past 2-3 years. We have a better squad than the squad that qualified for CL 2005 with a negative goal average.
Good progress with two semi’s (may well win the cup this year) and on the verge of a qualifying for third consecutive UEFA cup. These are good times.
