I think he wanted to replicate the success of Pienaar/Baines with Gareth Bale at left-back.

He had never played Gareth Bale in midfield until Seamus came on for his debut with Spurs 2-0 up, and they had never won a game with Bale in the team. The very next Spurs game saw him put Bale in midfield and they won. He took all the credit for that idea, the spiv.

I think he knows what good football is (his Spurs side played decent stuff) he's just of a different era of football manager that has been found out in the modern game. Whereas the likes of Fergie stayed at the cutting edge, Redknapp is probably managing the same way the likes of big Ron did back in the day. He should have retired with that generation of managers. They just thought, get your best players out and just play.

The modern manager now obsesses over every single detail. Whether that makes the likes of Rodgers or Martinez any more successful I don't know.

Everton have got a fantastic [tradition]. Bill Kenwright there, the old players when any of them need a hip replacement or need something, they have functions, dinners and they’ll pay for that and they’ll get them private health care even if they can’t afford to get it done.

They look after the old players. There are lots of clubs who don’t want to know the old players, they’re not welcome. It’s amazing, but that’s how it is unfortunately

Nice to see our club treating ex players right ! and it being noticed by others ! one of the reasons us blues are special !

Used to have a drink with big Westy. They paid for his new knees, well after his playing days haha.
