Harry Redknapp believes Everton are on the rise under the stewardship of “football legend” Ronald Koeman.

The former Premier League manager has backed the Dutchman to secure European football this season - and then go one better by challenging for a place in the Champions League in 2017/18.

“Everton are on the up again now,” Redknapp told evertonfc.com. “The future looks great for the Club.

“Ronald is a great guy. What a player he was. Just a great footballer and a legend of the game who is doing a wonderful job, as he did at Southampton. He is top-class.

“Everton are pushing top six this year, although they’ve got a few points to make up, but certainly next year I can see them having a real run at the top four. I’m sure they’ll strengthen again in the summer and, for me, they’ll join that top six and be another team in that mix as to who makes the top four.”

Discussing his appreciation for the Toffees in years gone by, Redknapp lauded ‘The Holy Trinity’ - Colin Harvey, Howard Kendall and Alan Ball - as one of the greatest trio he has ever witnessed on a football pitch.

“Everton have produced so many great players over the years, so many great teams but those three [Kendall, Harvey and Ball] were special,” he said. “They were just amazing. Little guys, but great footballers – you just couldn’t get near them.

Alan Ball, one of the best players I’ve ever seen. What a genius. The most infectious character you could ever wish to meet. Howard Kendall – just a great, great player. I played with Howard in the England youth team when we were 16. We won the junior World Cup, Howard was our captain – great player and a great guy. And Colin Harvey, another top player.

“Then, later down the line, there were the likes of Peter Reid, Kevin Sheedy and Gary Stevens, and Lineker after that – they’ve had great team after great team.

The 70-year-old also praised the Club for the work done to look after former players.

He added: “I think the way Everton look after their ex-players is just fantastic. They look after the older players extremely well - and I think that shows you what the Club is about in terms of their values.”

Always had time for Harry despite the jibes he gets. He's far better than his kopite son. At least Harry has an appreciation for teams all the way down the football pyramid and outside the top 6 in the prem. Jamie just says whatever the kopites want to hear.

Absolute woeful human being and football manager. I've decided not to renew my season ticket purely because there are people on here happy he likes Everton

I don't know why he continues to get any air time.

He's got nothing new to say on anything at all.

If he's being nice about us, I'm suspicious.

He doesn't do anything unless it benefits himself in some way.

Many outsiders (ex players, pundits) describe us as a 'proper football club'. I think that is due to the fact we aren't maybe the most successful club of recent years, but we always do things with class and dignity. The way we look after our ex players, the work of Everton in the community only adds to that. Things like this only reinforces the fact how proud I am to be an evertonian. No matter if we win, lose or draw we do things with class. I'm sure it will, but I only hope this tradition continues under our new ownership.

Howard was a youth tournament winning captain, want on to win titles in a top side, how on earth didn't he have an international career? Some of the grim players that this nation has handed 20+ caps to, absolutely staggering
