yeah that for sure, but the not marketing the club or creating myths out of players/managers has been going on for decades IMO.

Glad to see Harry Catterick has been recognised as a great manager. Pity that his managership was brought to a close.

Just finished the hard book autobiography of HC = a great read not a very well liked Manager -by some of his players - great fetching youngsters through into the first team, and aiming for pure football - in his era as good as any Manager - won us titles and a FA cup in a decade with sometimes breath taking football which I had the pleasure to see the Holy trinity in action = pure magic football of the highest standard !

Agree that 69/70 side played the best football I have ever seen from an Everton side,and Ive been a season ticket holder since 1965

Sad but amazing that the Cat and Dixie should both end their lives at Goodison. Browsing through the ITN source clips found this one of him being carried away at the end of the Ipswich cup match in 1985 (same game as Sheedy's two free kicks), a very sad moment to see though the upset reverence from the staff is there to see. http://www.itnsource.com/en/shotlist/ITN/1985/03/09/T090385001/?s=everton 1985

I know mate I just finished it yesterday I loved the book brings back the sadness of what went wrong in the early 70s, If anybody wants the book PM me and Ill send it to them maybe they could pass it on to someone else when they have read it.

Remember a mate of mine whose son was a youngster on the books,this day HC stopped his car at the gates to Belfield,and asked this young girl who was standing there " who are you waiting for" she gave him the info,anyway it transpired that H C called the lad into his office,and said to him " your girl friend is waiting outside, and if you want to make it has a footballer get rid of her now,you can't have both", true story.bit of a hard task master by all accounts.
