My brother was at Everton as a youth player, GK. At the time when West was there. My brother fell foul of that choice and chose girl friend and his Everton career finished as she did not like him spending time at training and not seeing her!

My brother carried on with the footy though and played for Skem and Burscough. Remember went to watch him at a Skem game and West was behind the goal shouting come on Kenny.

Moores had a vision to make Everton THE top team in the country, but his energy and then his financial support died away as he aged. Great pity.

I think Moores, like Catterick, deserves a qualified hurrah. Good things were done, clearly. Careful custodians, however, leave the shop in good order and that wasn't seen to.

I can't speak to his vision - who can? - but for all the gloss put on the appointment of Carter, things evidently weren't as they should have been. There was, imo, a transparent patronising arrogance towards the supporters which I didn't sense with LFC's relationship with their follower at that time.

All far too late now to put right now, so my argument is redundant anyway.

Unfortunately you are right. All went pear shaped with Johnson acquiring the shares and the contretemps with the Grantchesters ( Moores)
 
I really enjoyed it,I didn't appreciate he did such a great job at Sheff weds too,felt it for him re: the kid who was a young apprentice in digs he invited onto the bus for a boxing day game so he wouldn't be alone,the coach crashed in icy conditions,the kid was trapped and the awful decision had to be made to amputate his leg which finished his career.:(

Harry Catterick was a great manger, very quiet did not need to mouth off like Shankly. His time was also part of my time, he would sit up in the director's box alongside John Moores. The way he went about the business of signing players earned him a certain reputation. Not sure how much I believe it but it was rumoured that he signed up Alan Ball in a car for what was then a record transfer fee.

Was it Ball he signed at Charnock Richard Services, which hadn't been open long? ...and re Blackpool...who else was there for the mayhem when Joe Royle replaced Alex Young ?

It was, although at the time it was merely described as a motorway service station so it had to be CR because there were no others around.

AS for Joe and Alex, It was my time but must confess I can not really recall any of the detail now.

There was alittle bit of a riot by Everton fans at Blackpool when Young was dropped.Deservedly so in my opinion, he rarely got very involved in away games, but was brilliant at GP.
 

From what i can recall the match was in January when Joe made his debut we were beaten 2 nil by Blackpool. No sign of any bit of a riot though,more total disappointment at being beaten and a bit humiliated by a certain man ..Alan Ball.. who took it on himself to sit on the ball sometime during the game.
At that time there was plenty of speculation that both Everton and Leeds were after Bally...
Final whistle and most of if not all the Everton contingent behind the goal at the Tower end flooded onto the pitch ....yes me again on the pitch...!!
Straight upto Bally ...sign for us Alan sign for us....The rest is history.
Going back on the train was when we heard there had been some sort of rumpus outside the ground and as far as we were led to believe Harry Catterick had either slipped on the steps or as was reported rightly or wrongly kicked... to this day i am still not aware of any truth in the so called kicking ...
If the so called supporter(s) who did do this ..are still with us..hang your heads in shame....RIP Harry Catterick

His comments in the book (actually from Harry himself at various points at the time and after) make no mention of himself being kicked.

He felt he was jostled to the ground, but put it down to the enthusiastic nature of Evertonians for the club.

Also, he wouldn't have it if someone mentioned anything bad about Blues, when asked about the incident.
