2025/26 Harrison Armstrong

I went to the Preston game today, versus Wrexham. Dobbin, Broadhead, Small and Harrison.

From my seat Dobbin was anonymous, and Broadhead was only so so.

Small looks to have come on leaps and bounds, he caused a few problems for Wrexham down the left, but i would say he is probably at the right level at the moment, potentially though there maybe more to come.

From the three that have left Everton, i don't think we are missing that much, Small aside, possibly...

Harrison came on with 20 mins left, looked neat and tidy, good passing, scored a goal, could have had another. His general all round play was pretty good, i dont think he's ready for the prem as such yet, but a run of games and he could grow into it. He looked a better passer than any of the other midfielders on display there today, as i saw it.

If rumours are true, and we might recall him he would be a decent option from the bench i think.

I caught the last 15 mins of the PNE v Wrexham game , the bits I saw were entertaining. A well taken left foot goal from Armstrong, nothing exceptional but he went through his repertoire in a short period of time , sliding tackles, short passes, sling passes inside the defenders for an attacker and getting into the box for a header which came back to him to slot away. A telling remark from the commentator that “ Whiteman much more involved since Armstrong came on “ . Whiteman is the captain, usually the furthest back of their mids and Whiteman/ Armstrong where the central mids ,with two wing backs. A satisfactory performance in the time I watched.

It was a good low strike. Best time to try your luck is in the rain. Good header after dealing with the defender and he made the right decision with the shot. Put a bit of muscle on this guy and let's see how he stacks up against the league next year.

I watched the 1/2 hour Sky highlights, afterwards Heckingbottom was very complimentary about his future in the game and said , twice , he’s still got a lot to learn . But in a positive sense that he’s very talented and still got a lot to learn which will make him even better.

Come January the dilemma will arise again. He has got a lot to learn. Does he continue the learning process at Preston where he’s clearly one of their best players and will start many Championships games ? Do we bring him back , his minutes played will be less but at a higher level and he’ll be training with better players.?

A nice one to have.
