2025/26 Harrison Armstrong

With Charly, he isn't great at receiving the ball in tighter areas when back to goal, if you look at him recently I think Moyes has spoken to him about this. He keeps looking back to Pickford now as a quick transition of the ball.

Unless he's on the front foot, quick and direct, he has weaknesses in his game that will get jumped on.
HA is a must for our team now ....

To be fair to Alcaraz his strength in linking up with the other forwards is quick and direct and of great benefit to the team, so try and keep him in an advanced role and work on the half turn/awareness aspect of his possession play in deeper areas.

He's playing in a long ball team having to play a defensive midfield role ....
He can play anywhere in the midfield & it looks very likely we will see the Dwight back on his heels play - if that works fine ?
I know its painful mate, but just try and look forward to next season.

KDH - Garner - Armstrong

Thats a sweet midfield we've got 👌

You could always take Moyes off your Christmas card list..

Joey the last couple matches I watched Preston play, Armstrong was in an advanced midfield position and definitely not as defensive midfielder. Armstrong is usually involved in attacks on the opposition box and I wouldn't characterize their style as long ball either. He's incredibly versatile and gifted player I believe this loan has been quite beneficial for his development.

No he isn’t. He plays as a proper centre mid next to Devine with both ahead of Whiteman. Have you even bothered to watch a Preston game yet? They’re on TV a lot.

He’s definitely playing as an a 8 - and has played on both the left and right of the midfield 3 - but they are a long ball side. Very different to the way Derby played and how he played for them. It’s like he got a transfer from Roberto’s Everton to Dyche’s Everton.

The whole division is long ball. Even free-scoring Coventry were doing it loads against Preston.

In that particular game, 1 in 9 of Coventry’s passes went long which is the same as Middlesborough in their last game too. Preston, however, went long with almost 1 in 2 and average around 1 in 4, which is very similar to Dyche here.

Their Approach is very direct and straight to the wings.

They put everything straight to the wings as quick as possible.

Armstrong has cemented himself into the game now and calms the centre and plays shorter fluid passes, but even now he will still get bypassed ( not half as much as before though ) because the approach is so factored to the wings..

They havent changed their style, he's had to find his way to fit himself into it..

Absolutely and I’m sure Moyesy thought that playing where he’s playing for Preston and the way they’re playing would be better preparation for playing for us than getting a hundred touches in front of the defence.
