I never get them - my last few were Paypal, Ticktmaster, HBO Max, Cottage Holidays, Adidas, TripAdvisor, Stannah Stairlifts.

Behind the legendary stuff about a dragon slayer, there would seem to have been a real figure who came from Lydda in Palestine in the 3rd century. Having originally been a favourite military officer under Diocletian, as a Christian he refused to accept the emperor's anti-Christian decree of 298.

This man was tortured and beheaded in the Diocletian persecution about 303.

He was adopted by English crusaders as protector of soldiers but is also patron saint of Georgia (the country), Portugal, Milan and Barcelona - there is a St George's cross in the badges of Barca and AC Milan. In Catalonia he is known as Jordi. Also patron saint of Palestine and Ethiopia.

Like St Patrick and the snake legend, the dragon story is probably symbolism for the triumph of good over evil.
