As it still is tomorrow.

If you dont think we can beat Newcastle at home you really have fallen out of your optimism tree.

It's not really though Mick. I mean an optimist would say it is, but a realist would say it is not in our favour if you look at both teams run-in and take in form as a consideration.

A victory at Arsenal away? No way! A single point at best but it would probably have to be our best performance of the season to coax that out at the Emirates. Check Arsenals home record, then check our results history against them, it speaks for itself. We are simply not playing well enough to generate the levels of optimism you are displaying Mick :P

Newcastle, for some horrible reason, are playing well lately. Sure we may well put in a performance against them, but after watching us play our last handful of games mostly with gritted teeth interspersed with cries of "for [Poor language removed] sake" etc (bearing in mind this will be post Arsenal game too). A win here would be a resounding <Borat>Great Success!!</Borat>. I have hope, but we'll see.

Villa on the other hand will take all remaining 6 points I feel and have a single goal difference point now, no idea what it will be at season end.

The game against Arsenal is as big as it gets other than a cup final. We NEED a point here and we NEED to beat Newcastle. If we don't earn a draw at Arsenal then pray to god West Ham step up and beat Villa, it will be our only hope.

I can see the next 2 weeks are going to be hell to be an Evertonian. Then silly season begins...

[Poor language removed] the intertoto - a complete waste of time unless Moyes just uses it as warm up games.

Football's a funny game. Wigan cant be underestimated and havent lost a game in their last 5 and West Ham can sometimes pull something out of the bag.

Arsenal isnt impossible to get a result from. Newcastle are good at going forward but are still lacking everywhere else. Cancel out their strike force and they're [Poor language removed].

Lets just see what happens.

i wouldnt be arsed if we finished 6th, would mean a nice trip away in july watching the blues stuff some bollocks [Poor language removed] team coz lets face it, he would play a full side until the job was done, went onto the intertoto cup site, our game (if we finish 6th) is against the qualifier from Northern Ireland, Finland or Denmark

thought i'd try n convert this negative into a positive:lol:

maybe you can swap your uefa final tickets for one of those.
thus converting another neg into a pos.
your on a roll now lad.
could be a life changing thing this....glass always 1/2 full and never 1/2 empty.

stuff that though........flog the uefa tickets and take us all to denmark, the pastries and bacon are ace !! birds are fit and the ales the best in the world......probably.

So whats the rules of the intertoto then? How many games do we need to play to enter the UEFA cup?

On the bright side, if we do enter via the intertoto, it may force the hands of Moyes and the board to finally build a squad capable of lasting a season!

a home and away fixture with the winner getting into the UEFA cup is a waste of time?

if we won them we'd only have played 2 more games then we would've without the intertoto it seems that it isn't really a waste of time we'll batter any side in the intertoto providing that Bill backs Moyes in the transfer market.

Agreed, I dont see how any route into Europe should be viewed as a waste of time. So its gonna be tougher via the intertoto, so what, you dont win anything easily, to say dont bother is crazy.

done some research it seems that the draw has already been made for the Intertoto cup.

assuming we are the english contingent in the competition this will be our one and only fixture

Winners match K v ENG

The Match K is.

K: NIR/FIN v DEN

So we either have to beat a team from Northern Ireland, Finland or Denmark. All of which you would expect Everton to be able to do.

the intertoto will simply be part of the pre season matches, with a competitive edge, a team from Finland, N.Ireland or Denmark who cant qualify for europe through the usual channels should pose little threat. i'm all for it instead of getting beat by chicago blue red yellow and purple sox

Thats right. everyone get pessimistic. We drew 2-2 with a team that had scored 15 goals in their last 3 games before playing us, and everyone is writing us off. The form we showed is good enough to beat Newcastle and a point against the Gooners is far from being hard work as they are playing bollocks.

This thread is depressing.

If you are all going to give up whilst there are 2 games left then I hope you do not all discredit yourselves and complain if the team does the same.

stop crying, continue fighting.

We are better fans than this. We teach the team, not vice versa.

I dont see why this thread in particular is drepessing Gaz, its just a case of realism mate. This isnt something that has suddenly happend. Since getting knocked out of europe our form has hovered only just better than that of a relegation team.

The game against Villa was key, we win there we keep europe, we didnt and now it goes to the wire.

We're all behind the lads obviously, but the season has taken its toll mentally and I think not only the players are suffering a bit of mental exhaustion from it all, so too are the fans!

Well if ya put it like that (y)

Vim in truth I tend to agree.

I can't see us even chisling out a point at their place. We have a very hard time with a team that keeps it on the ground like they do. In fact current form suggests Villa can open up a substantial goal difference lead after next weekend. I don't like the prospect of a early tournament to gain entry into the UEFA first round but there it is. We missed a golden opportunity to keep Villa at bay for eight minutes and we couldn't do it. Poor defense led to our downfall on both goals in the second half when we dominated the period from start to fininsh. It our own fault. It just magnifies the Fulham & West Ham fixtures. But enough of the dire repose.

Like Mick says its in our hands but it gets very difficult from here don't let anyone kid you. If we pull it off we will have really deserved it.

this is where the coefficient thingy could come into play, it won't just be a case of 2 extra games, if villa get the auto place for 5th we could find that they get it a touch on the cushy side compared to us, and it'll be down to the hard work that we put in in europe this year.
