Those were my thoughts as Moyes intially entered us in a few months back. I can't claim to really know much about it other than it's a back door into Europe.

Well, thank goodness he entered us because it patently clear that it's gonna be our only hope for European competition next year.

Villa won't slip up vs. Wigan and West Ham and we'll be lucky to get 2 points out of Arsenal and Newcastle so....Intertoto, here we come.

Why is it a foregone conclusion that we'll lose at Arsenal? And why has Newcastle become a great team all of a sudden?

It's still in our hands. Games are not won on paper. We have a 3 point lead. Let's not lose it.

As much as it hurts I have to agree although West Ham away wont be easy.

Lets take a point at Arsenal and 3 against Newcastle but I feel its the Intertoto.

What a downer it will be next season with no European football. (n)

As it still is tomorrow.

If you dont think we can beat Newcastle at home you really have fallen out of your optimism tree.

Well if I had the Everton of 2 mos. ago vs. the Newcastle of 2 mos. ago, I would have said we'd have easily taken the three points. Easily.

But on current form of both teams, I'm really concerned.

(And it's more like an optimism bush...not too high off the ground. :P )

Well as I said in the other thread I thought it wasnt a bad performance today and the sort of result and performance against a buoyant team that could kick start us again.

True.

I'm not saying that we can't beat Newcastle.

Heck, we could take 6 points off of Arsenal and Newcastle to make the matter moot.

I'm just not encouraged, that's all.

I would love to be proved wrong. Big time.

I fully expect Villa to take six points from their last two games, i doubt we'll be strong enough to get a point at Arsenal, we'll beat Newcastle, but we'll lose 5th place on goal difference.

I fear that you might just be right, Bill.

FFS, talk about throwing it away. A month ago we were talking about Champions League, and now we're going to be lucky to qualify for the UEFA.

FFS, I'm annoyed now.

Although, I fancy Wigan to give a Villa at least a run for their money.

I thought it was quite a good performance to be honest, was chuffed for Neville that celebration is the stuff of legends.

TBH, given the first half I would've taken a 2-2 if offered it at half time. I really enjoyed that match and wasn't too disappointed that we didn't take all 3 points because they wanted it just as much as us and it showed. We'll qualify for europe, even if it means playing a couple of extra fixtures in the intertoto. I just hope there is money to spend.

Keep the faith.

any way being from close to that fantastic northern town of wigan, with it's historic past, great cuisine and fantastic people, all i can say is it's a pleasure to pay my council tax to you and i hope you take something from your game against the villa and live to fight another year in the premier league......is there a tongue in cheek smiley ?
