Guardiola to be found out in the premier league

At one point Pep had so much talent at the club that he could field two world class teams. The reality is, he has drastically underachieved in terms of European competition.

It’s one thing to lose in the finals, it’s another to not even come close to winning. He is a static manager that doesn’t seem to comprehend that the game has changed vastly from his Barca days. He is what I’d call a world class driller yet he falls short of the other top managers in terms of adaptability.

Best of luck to the young lad Delap, but bringing him on in a tight game at 1-1 against decent opposition for an experienced player like Fernandinho is utter stupidity, and smacks of arrogance, it backfired badly.

He seems to have lost that edge, almost like Mourinho.

I mean, he can't help having injuries, nor can he prevent three braindead penalties being given away.

But not sure what he's up to. He knows Koulibaly fixes his defence, yet they're signing all sorts of lower quality. Persists with Gabriel Jesus, when they're crying out for another striker of the Aguero ilk.

The excuses today that Leicester didn't play "football", is laughable. They absolutely torched them on the counter and played an excellent game.

Can anyone really see City improving from last season, this time round?

If his attitude is to complain when opponents set up to beat him rather than adjust, no.

He suffers from Mourinho syndrome. He hasn't got the ability to adapt and knows only one way of playing football. For all his potential and revolutionary, he'll end up in the bracket of good managers, as the great ones are capable of winning things in different eras.

Citys transfer policy has been horrific for a long time now.

Sure they get your KDBs, but Sterling, Kompany and Sergio were bought about 20 years ago.

Whoever thought spending 70m on Mahrez was a good idea needed sacking.

What I can never understand is why he plays Mahrez or Bernado Silva on the right wing when they are left footed.

It frustrates me no end when those players take the ball deep into opposition territory then turn back on themselves to use their left foot to shoot or pass the ball, giving the defenders time to adjust.

All that money and he’s got a 17 year old kid as his only fit striking option. I think Pep is just a masochist, he wants to win by suffering the most to prove he’s a genius farther than just going out buying top players, playing them in their right positions and running away with it again.

City used to have teams beaten before they’d even stepped foot on the pitch. Now for whatever reason they don’t and I’m not sure Pep can handle that

He's an odd one Pep. What he did in those 2 league winning seasons was unbelievable but you never get much sense of % play. I am not going to write them off, Leicester/Wolves is a very tough start to the season and in old money, losing 1 winning 1 is ok there.

Overall I think there are a couple of trends going on here. The first is that the league is becoming more open. I think there will be some regression from Liverpool, but unfortunately I make them favourites, as I've said before as I'm not sure they regress enough. However Chelsea's poor performance at the weekend puts into context their win against 10 men in that game. Tonight may be a sterner test, and from a neutral perspective it is a game that throws the league wide open if Arsenal could get a result/win.

Early impressions is that this feels a bit like the season Leicester won it, with each of the top teams making some mistakes and not quite being at their best, and it catching up with them.

As for City, I think they've compounded these trends in the last couple of years. The Canello signing made little sense to me when he needed a centre half. He let Kompany go and didn't replace him. He was very unlucky with Laporte, but it was an unecessary signing to me. Ake feels that way as well. He is versatile, but looks too weak to me. Dias could be a good signing, but there is some risk in there.

I remember in that Leicester season, both City and United started really well, a bit like Liverpool now and then just fell away. I just get a feeling we may see that this season.

While it's very open for us, to at least compete for 2nd, I do think ones to watch are Leicester. I predicted their demise and this looks wrong to me. Rodgers is a streaky manager who when on a run will just keep totting up wins. Last seasons experience of wins could really help them. They've also done it before. I've got half an eye on them.
