Peru skipper been let off a cocaine drug ban.

Captains from the other teams in their group wrote to FIFA saying they knew he was playing under the influence of Coke as he drank it in his tea, so no need to ban him.

Boss story this.

Peru deffo now my team this summer.
That's great news. Really pleased for him. Even the investigating committee believed he had taken it inadvertently and as its classed as a social drug and not a performance enhancer I thought it was perverse to give him a long ban. I think the original, interim ban was shorter and ran out a few weeks ago but for some reason FIFA decided to impose a longer one. Good that the captains of the other countries in their group took the stand they did.

Watched Peru v an experimental Scotland side the other night they don't look to have the absolute top quality or pace of Chile but could qualify nonetheless .. If only Teofillio Cubillas was 50 years younger ..

If strips won World Cups Peru would be favourites mind you

Haven't seen any of the France Italy game tonight, but by the way the BBC website is waxing lyrical the French performance, it must be something special. Currently 3-1 to France.

Not convinced by the French, drew with Belarus and Luxembourg (at home), but they do have an excellent squad.

Jose Mourinho backs Australia to escape World Cup group

The Red Devils boss believes the green and gold can get out of a tough group in Russia

The Socceroos have found some unusual support in the form of Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho ahead of a tough World Cup campaign.

Drawn alongside France, Denmark and Peru, Australia face a stern test in Russia and are at long odds to get to the round of 16.

Despite being ranked well below their Group C opponents, Mourinho has backed the Socceroos to finish second and go on to face Argentina in the World Cup knockout stage.

"I think France, no problems, will finish first," Mourinho said on RT.

"Big fight to finish second.

"I'll go for a surprise. C'mon Australia, let's finish second!"

The green and gold will start their World Cup campaign against tournament favourites France on June 16 in Kazan before subsequent games against Denmark and Peru.

Australia claimed their first win under new coach Bert van Marwijk on June 1 after cruising past Czech Republic 4-0.

The Socceroos will end their preparations for Russia with a final friendly against Hungary on June 10.
