They are in the greatest midfielders conversation and were the best midfield duo of the past 20 odd years.

I think it was Zidane though who said that being the best forward in the world is harder than being the best midfielder. Forward is the glamour position, great goalscorers are the hardest thing to come by in football. It's not like Messi was just a goal poacher, he had insane assist statistics and was the complete footballer, capable of doing things literally no other player could do, on a consistent basis as well.

Im fairly sure both Xavi and Iniesta would laugh at the idea of them being better than Messi. Both consider Messi the clear GOAT.

I prefer to use my eyes. Everything Ronaldo could do, Messi could also do. Messi could do things Ronaldo couldn't do and was a more complete footballer.

Both god tier legends but Messi clear GOAT for me.

No. Just making a point. Messi and Ronaldo are truly brilliant at what they do. Goals elevate them in people's eyes which to me, as a former centre half, is unfair in GOAT conversations. Especially when playing for Barca or Real in la Liga.

Xavi and Iniesta were the heartbeat of the team that allowed Messi to thrive.

For me it's Maradonna. To play like he did with far less protection from the refs on awful pitches is something else.
