Madness, he is only in it for the wages - he won't last long ...... Brighton, have sold big money players & he still wins games - will he be able to handle the mega stars at Chelsea ?

He`s in a win win situation Joey.

If he does well his stock continues to rise.

If he does badly and tanks, he won`t be short of offers, due to his time at Brighton.

Everyone in footy, knows that the Chelsea job, is only ever going to be a short tenure, no matter who the manager is.

Thats why I stated it's money for his financial gain - whos to say the person who takes Briton over with a well knit team may do better than him ?

Chelsea sack managers for the fun of it ... he will not be given time there....

But at some point pretty much every successful manager has to take that step up. Many of the games most successful managers have come from relatively obscure footballing backgrounds.

And there's every chance that he has dealt with rampant egos during his time at Swansea and Brighton. They're not the big fish that Chelsea are but they'll likely both had their fill of millionaire footballers with PL egos. And there's always the chance that the majority of the Chelsea players are pretty decent pros - successful footballers often are.

He seems to have a reputation as some timid data driven manager just because he's educated and speaks well. But he was a 6ft LB who spent his career kicking around the lower leagues. I'm pretty sure he's got a bit more spine than some give him credit for.
Sure, but this is not how the managers that make it at that level generally get there these days. At a club like Chelsea, you're trying to juggle the egos of some of the most expensive players in the game and some of the most highly rated prospects, which you need to hold onto in order to be a long-run success. This is totally unlike Brighton, where he was dealing with unheralded, hungry players highly motivated to succeed in order to get the big payday. Not all Prem player egos are created equal.

The guys that succeed at that next level generally have spent some time at the highest levels, whether as a player or as an assistant. Klopp is a bit of an exception, but even he had a long spell at Dortmund before taking the helm at a behemoth. For the most part, though, the ones that remain in the top echelon of jobs either played in one of the big fishbowls (eg: Guardiola, Conte, Zidane, Ancelotti) or spent some time at one as an assistant learning from a master (eg: Mourinho, to a degree van Gaal).

He has never walked into a job where he had less job security than the players before, and being a bit of a media darling probably works to his disadvantage in that the London media will be happy to sell the narrative of tearing him down. It's a big transition that most managers fail at unless they take an intermediate job along the way.

Can he succeed? Sure. Is it likely? Not on the evidence.

If they let him do his thing then I think he will surprise a fair few people. However it's Chelsea and they are not known for patience and their fans and board throw toys out the pram at the slightest thing. Todd Boehly gave Dave Roberts time to sort the LA Dodgers out because he believed in him and it's going to be about how much does he believe in what Potter is doing. Give him time and he will sort Chelsea out imo.
I agree with this and others who have said if he’s given time he will do well…..

If it doesn’t go well in the short term the out ball that Chelsea have is to say that ‘the experiment didn’t work’ etc etc but I think he’s shown that he’s a very capable manger and has been very successful (relatively speaking) at successive clubs.

We’ll prob pick him up in 2024 after Frank wins the double and heads to Real Madrid

Gossip: Chelsea have already lined up Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim as a potential replacement for Graham Potter if the Englishman's appointment as Blues boss does not work out

lol lol lol
ffs

Both Chelsea and Brighton will do worse.

He won’t be at fault with Chelsea because that side is a mess. Same issues as Evertons misguided player acquisition except 5x the money and 10x the pressure. The quality of the individual pieces is higher but no one seems to have a clue of how to knit those attacking pieces into a fit and firing unit. The whole is less than the sum of its parts. Teuchel at least imposed stout defense at first, they’re not so much with that anymore, but there’s no cutting edge either.

Can Potter fix that? I don’t doubt his nous generally but whether he can coach that style, had he shown it? More importantly, will that bunch give him the time of day? Lampard at least was a club legend and all time great, he had a better CV as a player than most of them in the dressing room, he had a chance to keep them. They’re going to look at him and say “what have you done? your old side couldn’t even afford me.”

Going from Abramovich to these clueless American venture capitalists…a fickle fan base…. Crushing expectations…. already a bad loss in the CL and a very real threat of not getting out of the group stage…. Depending on PEA who bombed out at Arsenal, is 33, and sickeningly just got his face beat in by criminals ….

I guess you take it if the jobs offered, but the only reason I’m not calling it now that they don’t finish top-4 is that some other sides also have problems…..
