Well yes and no. Obviously creating their own stars should be a main focus and target but to pull in many casual fans AEW will 100% need more then a few big names.
NJPW World subscription went up 60% due to interest in the Chris Jericho Vs Kenny Omega match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 so the draw of big names cannot be under estimated. People aren't going to en mass tune into a glorified Indy promotion. It has to be a combination of the big names pulling people in and newer "home grown" stars keeping people coming back.

Aye, but they need one or two more established "names" to get bums on seats imo.
I'm rooting for them. WWE is rancid at the moment.
The likes of Jericho are the perfect acquisition. There's very few 'established' stars who could still 'go'. Pretty much Jericho and Punk would be the top drawer signings.
Then you need the underutilised WWE talent who have big potential. The likes of Zayn, Owens, Balor, Gallows, Anderson, Revival.
You then bring in the indies (like the Bucks) and make new stars, as well as invest in a school to rival WWE if they have long term ambitions.
AEW can work and indeed should work - it's aiming for an entirely different audience to WWE and there is a market for it. However, I don't trust the people doing it - WWE is ran by glorified carnival workers and I can't see how AEW will be any different.

Think they have a massive opportunity but don't know how to really capitalise on it.
Jericho is someone who's always been ahead of the curve though and the fact he's over there makes me think it could be a genuine rival.

I'd honestly make their first Champion Hangman Page if it was up to me
He's a fresh face whose never main evented before who is talented enough to carry the role
Have a tournament where he beats Omega in the Final. It'll be a great match and should make him in one night

I didn't even think about Punk. He'd be a game changer. I'm pretty certain he hates the WWE enough to help out a legitimate rival.

If Punk returns to wrestling (not his little luchador run ins) then it will 100% be with AEW. Wouldn't be surprised if he shows up at their ppv before the TV weekly shows start
I've gone right off Punk to be honest
He lost a lot of luster with his failed MMA career and just general surliness when it came to questions about wrestling
I'm not convinced he cares about it anymore. All his interviews since leaving suggest that chapter in his life is over
Fair enough on him leaving WWE like, but he hasn't done much to help pro wrestling since doing so
