Now Raw and Smackdown were a bit crap.
But i have to say understandably so.
They’ve called up a lot of NXT people recently so there weren’t any really possible this time. All free agents in wrestling are getting signed up early. And there simply aren’t a lot of returns that could have happened.
The booking was horrific like but I saw the two as fillers really before next weeks shake up.
Not that brand split really means anything these days anyway.
The big problem is that they've killed off the entire mid card by making them look like chumps, so no one at that level can be elevated up the card
You can move Dolph Ziggler to Smackdown and Owens back to Raw, but it's not like either of them will spike any interest in the show they end up on
The recent NXT call ups are all just regular roster members as well, none of them come across as special because they haven't been treated as such
They also drop things with no explanation either, like when they teased that Nikki Cross was going to ruin Alexa's hosting at Mania somehow, even to the point that Bliss called her out on social media, and then never mentioned it again
Having Cross scampering out like a mentalist to ruin Bliss' grandstanding would have at least led to a new feud and given Nikki a bit of exposure. But then again Bliss is the Triple H of the women's division, in that she is hardly ever booked to look weak and almost always wins, despite being pint sized and having no real discernible ability in the ring other than being attractive and blond
They tried to do it then realised they messed it up and had too many good women on smack down and too many tag teams on smack downFor the brand split to really work WWE need to keep their brands totally separate for at least a couple of years. The only time storyline wise that they should ever be together is at big four PPV's. No drafts or shake ups during that time, devide the "big stars" 50/50 and honestly start to build up the lower card and mid card. I doubt they'll do any I'd this and we'll continue with the same old mess we've been getting for years.
I'm not arguing that it'll work, mearly that it can if done properly. WWE seem unwilling to let the brand thing die so if they have to really commit if they want to make it work. They simply have to unify the men tag titles, make it an exclusive to one brand and actually treat them as a prestigious championship with actual storylines. Put the cruiserweight championship on the other to balance it out. Have the woman's championship on one show and the woman's tag titles on the other. Make the brands diffent and distinctive. It worked quite well from 2002-05, no reason that it can't at least be that good again if done properly and planed well (that's the part that'll never happen). They need separate writing teams too. They tried to do it then realised they messed it up and had too many good women on smack down and too many tag teams on smack down
They will never stick to a brand split
