Not sure they listen to the fans who have been booing Reigns for years...
Well it's not so much about what I think "listening to the fans" means so much as it does stephanie mcmahon since I was quoting her to begin with. Imo listening to the fans doesn't mean doing everything they say. God no! The show would be more unwatchable then a Vince Russo booked impact if they did that.
Imo listening to the fans means letting the people who are actually over with your audience consistently get a chance (I mean people who are really over, not Indy darlings beloved by internet marks). It means changing the show up a little when you get poor reactions from the live crowd all the time. They really wouldn't have to do very much to win over the vast majority of the audience.
And no, obviously they shouldn't listen to that one idiot fan saying Curtis Axel should be universal champion but perhaps they could listen to massive number of fans chanting week after week for certain talents like they had for Zack Ryder and push him/her accordingly.
They don't change anything regardless of how many fans walk away. Wrestling is a tv goldmine and with zero competition WWE would actually have to tell their fans outright to F off to make enough of them walk away for that to happen. They don't have to change and they won't, they can just stay as they are and collect their money as the only game in town entitles them to. That wasn't my point, I just think it's laughable for them to claim they listen to their fans.
This is a fairly detailed post to basically just say, WWE won't change because they don't feel they need to. That's fine, I never said otherwise mate, it's their company and they can do whatever they want with it. I just think that her comment is a sound bite and she doesn't believe a word she's saying, you obviously don't. Different opinions and all that. What does Stephanie McMahon think listening to the fans means? I bet anything she think it means pushing the guy who sells the most merchandise. Or pushing the guy who gets cheered at live house shows. Or continuing to push the guy who main evented the most succesful Wrestlemania of all time.
Bet she listens to those fans. And the millions of other fans who continue to pay a lot of money to WWE. Why would they listen to fans who want Zack Ryder pushing when they're already the most succesful wrestling company in the world without pushing him?
So yeah, i'm pretty sure Steph fully believes what she said. And do you know what, even if she didn't and said it as a bare faced lie i wouldn't have an issue with it. Why? Because this is wrestling, it's an entire industry built on a lie. Wrestling promoters have been lying to their fans since the carnival days, they ain't gonna stop now.
And she's a business woman. If WWE don't listen to their fans because they think their fans are a bunch of idiots they aren't exactly gonna say so in public are they? No, they're gonna do what all wrestlings promoters and businesses have done since forever : tell their fans what they want to hear.
