I remember reading something that actually said wearing gloves for weight lifting was worse than using your bare hands because they weaken your grip with heavy weights and don't really prevent callouses.

Totally unnecessary and a bit gay looking. Chalk, some wrist wraps for heavy shrugs and rows, and you're away. It's very rare that your grip won't be strong enough, and chalk offers a much more secure grip than gloves do.

Noooo i wasn't on about gloves, I meant these things I use its just a variation of wrist straps which i only use for deadlifts and heavy shrugs

They're just not necessary, and they're not as secure as chalk, not by a long shot.

You can pinch your hands with a 32mm bar, if your hands are small like mine. But that's the only time a bar is uncomfortable. You're not likely to have a bar with aggressive knurl in a gym unless you've bought your own bar, and aggressive knurl doesn't start unless you've forked out £350-£1k on a bar.

Oh, they're ok. Shrugs they're a must, I hate hook gripping anything over 140, just hurts my thumbs too much and I turn into a [Poor language removed]. I should learn how to hook grip properly really, but it's just easier to use wraps aka I'm a [Poor language removed]

You don't need them for deads or rack pulls though, you're likely using an overhand grip and the bar is rolling. Either use a hook grip or a mixed grip, mixed grip being the more preferred option.

Could be something in that, I still get callouses from time to time. Suppose it's down to preference.
