That's not what is a singing section is though. It's in essence a standing area amongst seats but you can't call it a standing area because of ground regs. Obviously you get people going in there because they like singing but it's not about telling people to sing, they sing because they want to and are surrounded by like minded fans allowing the atmosphere to naturally happen.
A general misconception wit hthis is the ultra thing. That's your drum, megaphone, repeating the same chant over and over. Singing Section is a traditional approach your natural turn up sing what you want, when you when, if you want. Think terracing at the back of the Street End then. Like minded fans congregating.
Perhaps the title 'singing section' is misleading.
All of this already exists in the Lower Gwladys Street.
It's just that it's not enough people for some people's tastes, for the people driving this.
The Man Utd singing section, which is what the Everton Fans Forum has cited as an example in their tweets that they'd like to emulate, has song sheets given out to fans. The whole thing is choreographed.
If it's not a singing section and is really just a standing section like you suggest, then that is wrong too, because we have an all seater stadium and frequently make public address announcements telling people to sit down so that people behind them can see the game properly.
Goodison is full of posts and obstructed views and is one of the worse grounds to suddenly start advocating standing up in.
People go on about the atmosphere being dire, but I've been a season ticket holder for 30 years and see no different from the atmosphere 5/10 years ago compared to now. Some people are getting brainwashed by Sky that crowds have to be these all singing, all dancing public displays, when the reality is most people just want to go to the match and WATCH the game. We're paying to watch, not participate. I mean sure, we do sing occasionally and we celebrate goals etc. But Everton has NEVER been a club with flags/banners/scarves/wackiness at home games.
It's en vogue to think things are rubbish at Everton and can be improved, but the reality is the really important stuff that needs to be improved is obvious and nothing the fans can affect.
