Homepage Article Goodison Park to become the permanent home of Everton Women

Good news, and it's by far the best way to utilise the site! Arsenal have the best WSL attendances with an average of 28,000, whilst Liverpool are in third place with an average of 7500. Everton currently have the worst attendances in the WSL, with an average of just 1256.

The WSL is growing in popularity. The tickets are relatively cheap and easily obtained. Parents can take their kids there without having to worry about some coked up blert using the F-word every two seconds. It's just a relaxed day out, and nobody's weekend is ruined if the result doesn't go their way etc. I think that type of family friendly WSL offering could be delivered really well at Goodison Park.

Does Goodison Park have any loans secured against it? If it does, then it could prevent a sale, no?

Spot on.

I’ve never been to watch a ladies footy match, but I will definitely go and watch a game or two at Goodison now for all the points you raise above.

Also there are a lot of parents with kids and young adults with neuro diverse conditions, who would’ve loved to have taken their children to a game, but were unable due to the noise / crowds etc, who should be able to take their kids now, as it won’t be as crowded or noisy and a much more relaxed atmosphere.

Just thinking about adjusting the stadium for the women - Candles and Cushions everywhere, the Evri delivery man dropping off parcels constantly, Footy posters coming down and being replaced by “live, laugh, love” slogans and clean toilets. It’s gonna be great.

with no real legacy plan in place, this is probably the best way to honour Goodison Park and lets have it right, it isn't going to stay the same stadium we wave goodbye to on Sunday so whilst i understand some of the vexation from some, Sunday really will be the last time we see Goodison as it is right now.
For the Women's team it's a real sign of intent too which is brilliant and hopefully we can do some Chelsea-esque PSR work arounds as well. Everyone wins.

Financial analysis from stan collymore?

It's a solid depreciative asset that's costing a significant amount each year to be able to be open to the public.

It's quite clearly a postponement of the new owners not knowing what to do with the site.

It is not sustainable.

Is your house a depreciative asset?

What is this prohibitive maintenance cost, people keep mentioning without ever quantifying? Sounds a bit like the empty threats about safety certs not being granted by the previous regime all those years ago, only to be proven completely false. As Simon Inglis said at the recent Shareholders forum, the old Leitch stands are generally massively over-engineered structures that will comfortably last for another 100yrs, if allowed.

Is renting a tiny ground (or 2) sustainable, or more beneficial? Is having to build a whole new stadium for the women, that you may not even own sustainable? The women need their own venue and this will have to be addressed sooner rather than later.

What about the opportunity costs of preserving things of historic value, our presence in our heartland? Saving on building a whole new women's stadium? At present it all sounds a bit like that old adage about people knowing the price of everything, but the value of nothing.

We can only assume that the owners know all of those figures and have done their sums. If the numbers don't pan out, they've at least took full advantage of a free hit, and the site will not have depreciated in value in the meantime.

Quite right Tom. TFG have decided to go ahead after first carrying out a feasibility study .I'm sure they know what they're doing .

It's really hit home this season how special Goodison is. I know other teams have moved grounds, and it's been emotional for them, no doubt. I've been assuming that fact that this feels different to any other stadium purely because it's my team. Of course I'll care more. But maybe there's more to it.

The wife has only been 'supporting' Everton since she met me, so about 17 years. Even then, her support only really goes as far as wanting Everton to win, but not really knowing most of our players or even knowing the dates/times/opposition of the next game and our league position. Nevertheless, we did a tour of Goodison in October and it hit her just as hard as it hit me.

The news of the women's team and Goodison not being demolished brought a tear of joy to her eye.

Keep the Park end (with new seats since they're is flogging the old ones!) and remodel the rest of the place so that can be expanded if there is enough demand for it. The Park end alone has close to a 6k capacity. Smaller Gwladys, Bullens and Goodison road stands could take the overall capacity to somthing like 8 or 9k. That's more than enough. It would be quality and leave plenty of room for other Everton in the community projects and hubs.
