In my time supporting Everton, I'd have to say that Yakubu was the best we've had. See if Lukaku can give him a run.

Yakubu didn't get a sustained run after being out, he was finally fit and raring to go when we sold him.

I'm convinced there was major questions on his age.

Spectacular fall out of the premier league.

When he was scoring reckon he wasn't late twenties. Really early thirties.

Hence why people were reluctant to spend money to get him from us

Except that when he left us he started scoring at a rate that he never managed to achieve for us and I think it's fair to assume he didn't somehow start getting younger on leaving Everton... He is still scoring a goal every two games now, several years on...

What do you mean by "Spectacular fall out of the premier league"? He took the easy route to a cushy league like many players over 30 do. His league scoring rates suggest no such fall-off:

2007–2011 Everton 82 games (25 goals)
2011 → Leicester City (loan) 20 (11)
2011–2012 Blackburn Rovers 30 (17)
2012– Guangzhou R&F 43 (24)

He's 31 now. Some strikers from European countries aren't maintaining that sort of form at that age.

But your suspicions are otherwise justified (I had them too). Some African footballers have a history of faking their birth certificates to get better contracts. No one well-known was ever accused, but a few no-marks were caught out a few years ago.

Frankly Yak always looked older than his supposed age when he was mid-20's. But look at him now, and he hasn't aged. He's just got one of them faces.

The whole Moyes kills strikers is bogus. I don't know of one striker who did better after he left (McBride I guess if you'd nitpick). Yak did well in a lower division for awhile but of course so did Kevin Phillips.

Bent had his best seasons with us.

Saha was good for us, somehow rarely got hurt and abused the likes of John Terry his time here. He just got old.

When Yak started banging in goals Johnson was turned into a faciliator and played outside and then got old. Yak also arguably had his best season with us.

Beattie had that one decent stretch that helped us sucker poor Sheff Utd into paying 4M for him. He was never any good though.

Vic was made to be somewhat servicable under moyes.

Obafemi Martins is the most suspicious one for me.

He left Inter in 2006 aged "21" after 6 years of being with them, where he did pretty well.

His last 3 clubs have been Levante, Birmingham on loan, and Seattle Sounders. He is apparently 29 years old.

Is Martins still capable of running superfast and doing those crazy somersaults? Might be an indicator...

Hahaha, I think the first 1 v 1 at about 0:30 in this video gives you all the evidence you need! Nice chip though.

Off the top of my head...

Players used as a centre forward for Everton since David Moyes' appointment (through to current day).

1). Brian McBride
2). Kevin Campbell
3). Duncan Ferguson
4). Wayne Rooney
5). Nick Chadwick
6). Tomasz Radzinski
7). James McFadden
8). Marcus Bent
9). Tim Cahill
10). James Beattie
11). Andy Johnson
12). Yakubu
13). James Vaughan
14). Victor Anichebe
15). Louis Saha
16). Jo
17). Marouane Fellaini
18). Jermaine Beckford
19). Denis Straqualursi
20). Apostolos Vellios
21). Nikica Jelavic
22). Arouna Kone
23). Stephen Naismith
24). Kevin Mirallas
25). Romelu Lukaku

There's a lot of pap in there, granted. But how hardly any of these had a consistent run of 10+ seasons (goal wise) is pretty dire.

Yak did well in a lower division for awhile but of course so did Kevin Phillips.

Except he also did well in the Premiership when playing for a club that was struggling badly. I know this doesn't fit with the overall argument but it's a fact. He was scoring loads for Blackburn and I remember a lot of people talking about it on here at the time.
