GOODISON GRAVEYARD

Player Valuation: £70m
Over the years Everton have brought in some really productive centre forwards because of their eye for goal such as Andy Johnson, Yakubu and recently Nikica Jelavic. In their early times at the club, goal scoring was not an issue, then all of a sudden the goals seem to evaporate. Why has Goodison become graveyard for centre forwards?

Moyes making dem work all dem channels.

I think it was partly due the to way we played but to be honest I think being a consistent striker is the hardest job on the pitch. How often do you see a striker burst on to the scene only to turn out average at best. There's been so many cases. If you want a 20+ goal a season striker, then you're going to need about £15m at least. In most cases anyway.

When we signed Yakubu he was a top striker. Scored a bucket load until he had an almost career ending injury.

Apart from the Yak, (and Saha or Dunc when they were fully fit) we haven't had a top striker in my lifetime and that is the problem.

....I don't think this is unique to us. The teams with the biggest financial clout tend to have the best forwards. This is because there are so few of them and demand is high.

This.

The whole Moyes ruining strikers thing is a stupid myth. People say he made striker works the channels, but look at how Lukaku plays and how little goals he's got recently. Have a look through our past strikers under Moyes, be honest and look at how many were actually good players. Yakubu was the only good striker Moyes had. Saha was technically a fantastic player, he was just injured far too often.

There's that lad for Chelsea too, what's his name? Heard they paid £50M for him. Confidence seems paramount to a striker's form, and seems like so many things can affect that. When a top scorer is in form, it seems like he takes shots he shouldn't and they still go in. When he's out of form, he misses shots that I could likely slot.

Other than Rooney, how many strikers have left us and did better?

Whilst I agree our strikers go through long patches without goals, the service to the strikers over the years has not been brilliant by any means, but.... how many strikers have we let go in 20 years who have done better when they left?
