Goodison atmosphere

I do feel awkward singing when so many around aren't but I just do it anyway as I have all my life. it's like the crowd is now a new regime who look down on those who sing as a throw back to the hooligan days for some reason, like it's not modern behaviour, instead we should be ticking off passing stats or cross percentage and singing gets in the way.

The atmosphere is very poor and has been slowly dwindling in recent years - there's a guy who sits close to us who tries his best each week (from his accent I'd even say he travels from Yorkshire or somewhere) to get the crowd going but everyone just looks at him like he's a bit embarrassing.
I'm not sure it's totally about the team playing well, I think some are so far up there own proverbial they won't sing, but maybe that's they way the game is going, a middle class, Tory sport where any sign of tribalism is considered not PC.

But I'm open for being corrected as this is my view only and do not intend to insult anyone by these remarks.

This is a major factor too, we are too cool to be passionate it seems. We "cringe" at fans with drums, fans doing the poznan, fans signing the whole match. If you say the wrong thing in the stands, it is that quiet you can feel the burn from the glare of the fans behind you, ESPECIALLY when you have a different accent.

I never understand these threads...

As said earlier, we're never going to beat drums for 90 minutes or sing ridiculous anthems, because we react honestly to what we see on the pitch.

The fans still have the philosophy of winners; the team have not for a long time. That's the disconnect. And the fans are 100% right on this.

You saw people, en masse, chant for Niasse when he scored because it gave us something to react to - honest, real professional effort and the desire to do well. He didn't need a song from the crowd to perform; he did it himself.

When Everton do the right things on the pitch, Goodison bounces. And I don't mean "sing when we're winning" - we're anything but that. Stracqualursi is a cult icon just because he put effort in despite being gash.

Yes, the crowd aren't exactly knowledgeable about football to a massive degree - see the treatment of Barkley for example, which comes from loads of fans collectively not understanding what he does - but over the years we've also applauded technical effort like from Arteta, so it's not a "dogs of war" hangover either.

We are not the only club fanbase like this right now; in fact, the only teams that have "atmosphere" are the drum-beating weapons who I'd absolutely detest us to be.

No, the blame if you want to allocate it should go to two things - insipid footballers who have become overpaid and go through the motions - especially at a club like Everton when they've come her to retire, have earned their career high move and have no reason to perform further and/or just don't give a crap - and the state of the modern game itself.

When the team shows some desire to perform, we'll show desire in the stands. I'm not going to applaud mediocrity. In that respect, our motto still means something.
very well worded.

Singing at matches was dealt a severe blow with the removal of terracing. Generally you need to stand to sing whether your in a choir, in church or a band. At away matches we all stand so singing is easier. At home matches if you stand you will possibly be blocking the view of a youngster which is unfair. Reserved seating also means you can't freely gravitate to the more rowdy sections. The decline of hooliganism also removed the purpose of the more aggressive and popular songs.
In the face of all this, singing can seem a bit contrived. Doesn't get in the way of a full blooded 'Goodison Roar' though, which we still do on occasion if the team ever get going.

I hate these types of threads.

The atmosphere is generated by the quality of football on the pitch, end of debate.

Do you want us to turn into some wool club who bang drums, regardless of the score line, to generate an atmosphere?

Or, we could sing an Everton song at the end of the game, just like Liverpool with Walk On, to show what super fans we are.

Often atmosphere was very good before it unfolded that we going to be rubbish, so it's not as cut and dried that its all about the quality on the pitch.
The singers at Everton have never been into drums so I don't see the relevance of the other sentence.

It's the instant negativity that annoys me but it will never change. I don't agree that its far worse than any other ground though, the atmosphere is generally poor throughout the country.

The false comparison between the Premier League and Germany is a bit silly. There's one massive reason they have a boss atmosphere and it's money. German fans are still treated like fans rather then customers to be exploited like as we are here. It would be a lot easier to get behind a team of multimillionaires who can't be arsed most games if we weren't paying over £40 for the privilege of it! Start charging reasonable prices and you'll find that more people would be far patient and far less entitled. Bottom line is, when you treat fans like customers don't be surprised when they start acting like them.

Basically our fans want to see dynamic high tempo football. Always have done. If we are on the front foot with or without the ball, hard pressing, quick into the tackle, moving the ball on quickly and with purpose, the fans do get behind the team and the atmosphere can be the best around. Play controlled possession sideways football in our own half, the opposite happens, and eventually a defensive error leads to a goal against and the crowd turn from benign to hostile.

The atmosphere inside Goodison really is down to how the team plays. The manager and players determine our mind set, not the other way around. No Evertonian goes to the game just to have a moan, despite how it appears sometimes. The blame for the atmosphere rests with the managers and players, not the fans. Inspire us and we'll get behind them. 100% guaranteed.

We are all frustrated as the promise of the summer spending has not been transformed into enjoyable and/or winning football.
This frustration can emerge in different forms.
A web page on GOT is just one of them.
Word for word, we might not agree with the opinons of those around us.
But to be clear, we are ALL Everton fans and we are ALL getting very frustrated and should not be taking it out on each other.

Arl fella next to me does I'm tellin' ya, I honestly dunno why he bothers!

Action , reaction. If the performances are of a standard to shout about, the crowd shouts. How you can expect anything but grumbles watching the current football is staggering.

I know right. I'm not a season ticket holder, so when I go it's obviously always in a different place and you always dread getting the whinging arl arse who moans about anything and everything. Fans eh.
