Was thinking that last night. Look how involved Clark's caddie is with his putts. He very rarely gets Harry his caddie to look over any putts which I've always found quite strange, just for the extra pair of eyes.

Makes you wonder, McIlroy with JP Fitzgerald on the bag - 4 majors in 9 years! Since he sacked JP in 2017 not one!He very rarely gets Harry his caddie to look over any putts which I've always found quite strange, just for the extra pair of eyes.

All well and good having a mate in Harry Diamond on the bag, but is RM sacrificing something by doing so?
Think the 'no advice' aspect of the putting comes from his coach Brad Faxon. Think he's looking to get McIlroy to go with his gut rather than overthinking the stoke.I know Harry is supposed to be a very good golfer (or certainly was) but Rory never gets advice from him when it comes to putting.
I think Rory is missing a trick imo

Hi everyone
Looking for a bit of advice
Myself and my mate are looking at taking up golf. We are proper novices , only been to the driving range a few times and 2 weeks back did a front 9.
We both really enjoyed it, might of been the buggy part whilst having a couple of Heinekens that added to it![]()
We are looking at buying some clubs. Im not too sure what to get, but then I dont wanna rinse loads of money when its not needed.
American golf offer a free in store custom fit also a new starter experience.. im guessing this is a good idea as being different heights will affect what clubs are right for you ?
Any help will be muchly appreciated... cheers![]()
Hello, mate.
First off, are you sure you want the pain of golf in your life?! If so, yes the American Golf starter experience will help but they’re essentially salesmen and will try their best to fleece you.
I bought a full set of clubs, with a bag, balls and tees off eBay for about £50 when I first started. The lads at the course were ripping me as my gear was proper old. It worked for me, though. I slowly upgraded clubs one at a time, buying used stuff online until I got to a decent handicap (mid 20s) then I treated myself to a new set of irons. I’ve been playing a while now and I still buy used woods, as I can’t bring myself to use pay the extortionate prices for new ones.
I buy lake balls off eBay also, as you don’t feel as bad losing balls you’ve paid less than a quid for.
It just depends on how into it you want to get, but I’d suggest getting a cheap set to begin with then upgrading as you go along.
Hopefully, you enjoy it![]()

SoundSpot on advice here @Rich1878
Don't need a custom fitting session until your at a decent standard and getting well into it
Get in ebay, loads of boss bargains to be had and then just upgrade club by club. After 12/18 months, if your still enjoying it and getting decent, then start looking at treating yourself to a new set (or a quality 2nd hand set )
Thank you!
Ok, so you would suggest going to AG ? I just want some good advice etc, also being 6ft 1 , I worry in buying gear and some of the clubs being dead small.
Will definitely look into the lake balls though , great shout![]()
I've seen a fair few club sets on Golf Bidder and AG, and both offer that Klarna payment which I think is pretty decent. I know I will be paying the full ammount, but it takes the sting out of paying it full in one hit
But thank you ! I really do appreciate the reply
Ok , thank youIf you can resist getting conned by the AG salesmen then it is worth going as they’ll tell you if you need extended clubs (I reckon you’ll need an extra inch or 2, shame they can’t add that to more than your clubs!).
I’ve been fitted by AG a couple of times, remembered what they told me then went and bought the same measurement clubs elsewhere as they’re usually more expensive but the interest free finance, or Klarna options could work well.
If you can afford paying out like £100-£150 on a second hand set I’d recommend doing that to start with.
Golf Bidder are sound, I bought my last hybrid off them![]()
Ok , thank you
I'm going to go and get a fitting them potentially buy second hand like you suggested. My mate has been told the same tbh, but again, I was just wary of the clubs being too small. I will end up with pissing sciatica again ! Walking about like a prawn
Walking away empty handed aswell. Probably do a hammer throw with my putterSciatica will be the least of your worries when you’re getting to greens in 2 and walking away with an 8.
