Goals and assists

We're spreading the goals around quite nicely:

Lukaku 8 (league only)...if he carries on at the same rate 24
Coleman 3...9
Baines 2...6
Deulofeu 2...6
Oviedo 2...6
Barry 2...6
Barkley 2...6
Osman 2...6
Mirallas 2...6
Pienaar 1..3
Naismith 1..3

Total 27..81

Last season:

Fellaini 11
Jelavic 7
Anichebe 6
Pienaar 6
Mirallas 6
Baines 5
Osman 5
Naismith 4
Jagielka 2
Gibson 1

So last season we scored 55 league goals. If we carry on at our current rate we will end up with 47% more! And I think that Mirallas, Barkley and Pienaar in particular have more goals in them. What if we can bring another striker in too?

As far as assists go:

Mirallas 5
Lukaku 4
Barry 3
Osman 3
Oviedo 2
Deulofeu 2
Pienaar 1 (before today)

It's strange that Baines hasn't provided any assists.

Whats even more strange and a litle bit concerning is that the player occupying the playmaker role - Barkley hasn't had a single assist thus far

i don't think coleman will end up with 9. also how do these work if we're 2 games away from half way through the season?

Fair point. I had it in mind that we were a third of the way through the season.

To be more mathematical about it: 27 goals/16 games= 1.69 goals per game x 38= 64.13 goals.

So it would still be a 16% improvement on last season's goal return.

Good point. I think that Mirallas would score more goals from the centre and that Barkley is a better crosser than Super Kev and I'd look at switching them, but I suppose that Martinez is thinking long-term and he wants Ross to learn how to contribute assists from the centre.

The main issue seems to be that Ross shoots more often than playing his teammates in and when he does try a slide rule pass other players aren't on the same wavelength.

good stuff. it's what we expected, but our tight defence makes it all the more better as well. even if we do have the odd game of shipping 3.

Last season we let in 40. We're currently on 15.

15 goals/16 games= 0.94 goals per game x 38= 35.63 goals

So it would be an 11% improvement.

United seem to struggle scoring from open play. It's the same personnel too. Maybe Rooney playing more in his preferred position means that they miss his creativity from deeper?

I'd have thought that City would have been much better off and Spurs much worse off.
