That's why I think he won't be going anywhere this summer Dave. Realistically, only City in the PL would buy him now, and they're looking at getting three major targets in Sterling, De Bruyne and Pogba. Arsenal won't spend silly money on him, and Mourinho won't have him at Chelsea until his errors get cut out, and I can't see Van Gaal going in for him. We've got him for another year unless City get rejected on Pogba and decide to splash out £50mil on him.

The thing with Barkley (and something top club managers will have noted) is that when he's on international duty and surrounded by good players, he looks every bit the player who can slot into a Champions League team no bother.

I wouldn't fixate too much on his frailties in defence. Scholes was a complete liability on defensive duty, for example. Lampard ditto.
