And i have stated that China is different.

Not sure how me being stabbed is amusing posters and moderators.
No ones laughing about you being stabbed mate, chill out. It’s more the point that you’d earlier stated that black people are treated like celebrities in Asia, and your vaulted post suggested otherwise.

I do think you have drawn a lot of false equivalencies between the systematic oppression of communities who are frequently born into poverty and marginalised due to their race, and the treatment of white people in Asia. There is a lot of history which suggests you’re wrong in that line of thinking due to the fact they did not enslave a massive amount of the white population historically (which accounts for a portion of that population being there still), and don’t have large populations of white people growing up in poverty there.

The fact remains that white people are the least oppressed and discriminated against race in the world, and a lot of the problems facing other races around the world (note I said a lot, not all) are down to actions taken historically by white people.

Again, when white privilege is brought up, it is not an insult. It is merely stating a fact. White people do benefit from the privilege of not being discriminated against due to their race.

Any idea why PAVA is favored over water cannons which iirc used to be as a crowd control measure?
Do you mean these mini PAVA pellets and/or tear gas canisters - these can be mace or other compounds too? In reality, the same answer is pretty much the same.

The cost of maintaining a water canon (vehicle, maintenances and training) is quite substantial and for the same price (or less) you can have lots of PAVA et al.

It also offers the flexibility of having multiple users with dynamic positioning and quick deployment, whereas water canon are less mobile - quite cumbersome.

Water cannons have a higher risk of serious injury or death too. In reality, unless you have regular riots (like places in Germany, France or NI) they're not worth it.

Yet, protesters are able to counteract PAVA etc. with the correct equipment, but a water canon will win in most situations: they're a common tool over in NI.

If they were never called in to DC to respond to civil unrest what were they called in for? And who gave the orders both to bring them and to send them back? Surely the time/money involved could have been spent on other things like testing nursing homes?

I would suppose that it’s possible some high up military officers weren’t particularly comfortable with their soldiers being deployed with live rounds in their own cities under orders of a madman.

I didn’t know the correct terminology - am still holding out some hope that it doesn’t become so widespread I have to research the differences :(

Thanks for the explanation, helpful and wasn’t aware that water cannons were themselves higher risk.
