Yep. It’s happening everywhereWe had a primary in Maryland. Our current governor is a repub who generally has a decent approval rating but is term limited. He's considered a "moderate" because he admits democrats exist and there is a supermajority of democrats in MDs congress to keep him in check and override vetoes.
That gov endorsed Kelly Schultz. A bog standard career pol from the GWB era and endorsed by all the mainstream media who would have a very good chance of winning. She was trounced by Dan Cox who paid for buses to attend the coup and denies the result of the election. Schultz even lost Anne Arundel Co. (Annapolis, home of the naval academy and neocon Vahalla). Oh and that party went straight down ballot on MAGA. This guy won the nom for Attorney General, easily.

GOP May Nominate a Pro-Secession Christian Nationalist for Maryland Attorney General
Michael Peroutka believes public education is a communist plot, abortion and gay marriage violate God's law, and the concept of separation of church and state is a “great lie.”www.vice.com
So what does this all mean? It means they will both lose....probably (I'm a Dem I'm hard wired to believe we'll screw things up, even in generally sane MD). It also means that Dan Cox/Peroutka clones will win primaries in almost every state and a lot of them will win elections in their less blue state and very soon a lot of them will win national elections. This is the new norm. This is the chaos that was released after Jan 6. These people are coming, there are a lot of them, and we are still afraid to hold them accountable because optics or something.
At least in that vote, almost 50 Republicans crossed party lines in the House to vote in favor of codifying gay marriage at the federal level. As per yesterday’s vote, all but 8 House Republicans believe that women shouldn’t have access to birth control. Not abortions, birth control of ANY kind.I know this won't scratch the surface for right wingers, but how can you support a party in 2022 when two thirds clearly do not view gay people as having the same rights as them. Religion is not a shield for your bigotry
