Maybe not, but he has been 'sectioned' under the Mental Health Act of 1983. He is another of the troubled talented players. No sympathy from me though. The self-destruction comes from within.

Mental Health Act:

It covers the reception, care and treatment of mentally disordered persons, the management of their property and other related matters. In particular, it provides the legislation by which people suffering from a mental disorder can be detained in hospital and have their disorder assessed or treated against their wishes, unofficially known as 'sectioning'

As a qualified nurse for this sort of case I am disappointed with your attitude Dylan unless you know all the TRUE facts not newspaper headlines how can you form a balanced opinion I do not claim to know any more of gazzas troubles than the next .but experience in this type of case leads me to believe its not all self destruct and as a ex Everton player and England great he deserves better from our fans in my opinion any way.

I think it all begins with the way he treated himself in his earlier years. The alcohol and drug abuse has obviously taken its toll. It is that, that I have no sympathy for.

Normally I would agree but this is a guy who feels he has to entertain and do what ever it takes to fit in.some of the tales from Newcastle( I go there often)and in Liverpool suggest that although he was a great player in the real world he never matured hence he is now in free fall I know a few ex players who told me similar stories of it not being a nice time when you became just another guy as opposed to a bit of a celeb and Gazza was on a higher plain than my friends. and he dose not have the skills to cope

i do have some sympathy for him, as he was a genius with a football but, it seems, a [Poor language removed] up in most every other aspect of his life. for whatever reason it would appear he can't live with himself. all very sad.

I feel very sorry for Gazza. In many ways he's like the proverbial Peter Pan, happiest when playing the fool. Perhaps that behaviour masked some type of hidden pathology. One thing about him that bugged me was the issue of spousal abuse. He should have known better than that, particularly as he appears to be hyper-sensitive himself. I hope he improves, but I fear that this is the beginning of a long slippery road of depression and poor mental health.

Hes a very likable bloke, lets hope he can put the peices of hs life back together and find some lasting happiness.
Sadly few people do they learn to live with to a point but any of life's normal dramas deaths and illness of loved ones ect can spirale them off again

There must be someone out there who is brave enough to take a chance on him, give him a job coaching kids or something, football is all he knows and to let a talent like that go to waste is a shame.

Get well soon Gazza.

At heart he's a good person. However, I feel that he is a time bomb waiting to go off. As Coyney pointed out, when people with similar characters to Gazza get to the point that he has, then I believe that there is only a small chance of them getting back to some normality. Mental illness is usually something that stays forever. I fear Gazza doesn't have the strength of character to overcome his demons. I hope I'm wrong, though. :(
