I am staggered as to what may have pushed him to do this...no doubt we will hear it all from the inquest, which will need to take place. This news has rocked me.

Gary Speed. RIP.

I loved him I really did. The first name I got on the back of my Everton shirt in the 98 season when names we're put on shirts.

My own personal Gary Sped story is when Bolton came to Korea and were playing FC Seoul. After the match I was hanging over the railings amongst thousands of Koreans and was shouting his name. He looked up to me and I said jokingly 'Gary, lets swap shirts!' of course I was wearing my Everton shirt. He started laughing and said 'I've got enough of them at home!!'. A boss exchange with a top man and all the Koreans we're in awe that I was talking to one of the players.

Gary Speed, I'll never forget you. RIP.

Stunned by this. was a big fan of his as a player, adored him when he was with us. Looked destined for a decent level of success as a coach, I even thought of him as a future Everton coach!! Tragic loss.

R.I.P. Gary Speed

Just popped on to say very upset about this news.

As Tepic said. In 96/97 absolutely LOVED him.

Met him twice and always polite.

The fury of some Evertonians when he left was purely because he was so boss, and it was the fury with the world, at what we lost as a player at the time.

I remember wearing the blue-yellow strip that season (in school) and trying to be like Speed.

Terrible news for football.

Dreadful news. It's almost a year since one of my favourite musicians went the same way; i can never understand what drives anyone to do this, especially someone with the success of Gary, but i guess we can never charter the dark paths of someone else's psyche. I truly hope the press treat him with respect, but as others have said it's almost inevitable that some journos won't. RIP.

Had his name on back of the yellow/black an blue shirt!
Was a proper Everton player as in he gave 100% an could play!

Really am shocked and upset at this news.
RIP Gary Speed!
