Gareth Barry

We should not have to wait until a player embarrasses himself before looking to replace him. It is the same with Jags now, every bad game he has he will be crucified, when actually it should be the management who foresee these things and prepare accordingly. Barry has been a great signing but should only be playing 15-20 games max at this stage of his career. The next 2 transfer windows will tell us whether this club have any major ambitions or whether they are just willing to plod along as before.

I was watching a Gary Neville documentary and he was 35 and got subbed after a poor performance and he said in the documentary 'I knew I would never play again'. Though Gareth Barry has high standards we have to be looking to replace him with an even better player given his age. One with power and who can create or score goals as well as tackle and play the simple passes.

Phil Neville basically said similar after the Wigan game - that he knew he was finished

Suggesting he could earn a new contract, the manager said: “If the team is compact and he doesn’t need to run too much between the lines them he can play two more years at this level no problem.

“He can’t do all the training sessions of course, but if you keep the boy fit, he will be very important for the team.”

This completely though.

Barry isn't finished at all.

The issue is he is massively exposed by pace from another side. It's why Gueye being there is so important.

Barry is still vital for us because of the failing to bring in another midfielder (and Barkley's inability to step up) that can control the tempo of our play.

So, when a team presses against Barry, they will more than likely get some joy if he isn't afforded the protection he needs.

So Barry struggles to play 2 games in a week and people don't think we just replace him?

It's all all-out standards , and accepting him as all-out first choice midfielder is accepting mid table mediocrity

What on earth are you going on about mate ?

Today was the first game after an international break, Barry was suspended and we looked clueless without him. I have no problem with replacing him with someone better, but people who can't recognise what a good player he is are in grave danger of being labelled as a bit daft.
