Probably his best performance in an Everton shirt. Immense this evening.

Martinez says he's the best he's ever worked with......
Just Briiliant.

The foundation everything is built on.

best player on the park tonight by a stretch.... sublime performance

Still swooning over him and Besic this morning.
The pair or them were absolutely boss.
I started a thread the other day about Besic replacing Barry, but, err, maybe it should've been, "Which Attacking Midfielder Should Play Alongside Barry And Besic".

Barry has been brilliant for us this season. Great turnaround from last season. His passing is superb and he never stops running.

His defensive stats for the festive period where he played the full 90 minutes in 4 games within 12 days

city - tackles 2, interceptions 2, clearances 2
spurs - tackles 4, interceptions 2, clearances 4, blocked shots 3
Stoke - tackles 4, interceptions 1, clearances 1, blocked shots 2
Newcastle - tackles 5, interceptions 1, clearances 2

Not bad for a guy about to turn 35 especially as he managed a glorious assist as well.

When Barry signed for us I spoke to a couple of City supporting mates ( well, people I know anyway ) and they were gutted that City were letting him go.

I was a bit surpruised at that at the time, but was told that you only appreciate him when you see him week in, week out and even then, not everyone gets how good he is because he's not flashy and doesn't have a fancy foreign name.

I spoke to one of them today, and he's still gutted. Happy days.

Guardian seems to think that Martinez was a touch effusive in his praise :p

When, at the peak of his career, Barry signed for City, his new boss, Mark Hughes, claimed that he was “widely acknowledged as one of the top midfielders in the Premier League”, which was perhaps a little enthusiastic but not downright ridiculous. Hughes’s successor, Roberto Mancini, went with: “He’s a good man, a clever man, both on and off the pitch.” This raises the possibility of attributes being in some way geographically-restricted – as if someone might have unusually fine eyesight but only when in kitchens, or be extraordinarily good at ballroom dancing, though only when not in ballrooms – but otherwise seems effusive without toppling into lunatic excess.

Indeed a couple of years ago Martínez got it about right when he said of Barry that “at the moment I don’t think there is another English midfielder of his type who brings what he brings”. Sadly he has since decided to cut the vital phrases “at the moment”, “midfielder of his type” and “brings what he brings”, and replace them with “in the entire history of all humanity”, “footballer of any kind” and “is anywhere near as good”, respectively.
