But what does this :

Have to do with Gareth Barry?

People are using big wins at home to Sunderlamd and Villa to prove that I'm wrong to claim that the Barry McCarthy axis does not need to be used every single match. If they want to play that game the West Ham match is an example of when we didn't have enough to beat a side we could have if our midfield was more progressive.

He was poor last season but has improved this season. That said I still don't think the partnership needs to play every match. Wins like this are great but their inherent conservative nature will stop is taking advantage of opportunities over the course of a season (and has done so already). Just my opinion of course. I believe Gibson Osman Cleverley Besic or Barkley in a deeper role all offer different tactical options that are necessary against different opposition. So Barry and McCarthy worked against Villa and Sunderland, it does not mean they'll work every week. Indeed they weren't great v West Ham for example.

He looks a real good captain and has been one of our best players this season

He certainly seems to thrive off being captain, but I guess being captain of a big team is probably the only thing missing from his storied career so it isn't a huge surprise that he is taking advantage of it. Certainly seems to be in the right places more to deal with situations than jags does.

Barry has responded great to being Captain his performances have got better , and better since he was awarded the captains arm band!
Excellent yesterday, always made himself available to Mori and Stones and found lots of space going forward.

Agree to think that Villa side drew with city 0-0 in their last game, but oh wait City got thumped by the other lot at home this season is like the old days every team in general seem to be beating each other!

Only just realised this, before the Villa game Barry actually had more Premier League goals than Lukaku! Can't believe he's got 50 goals!

He could have had a nice career modelling with that profile but glad he chose football instead.

Given the inexperience of a lot of our team think his calmness under pressure is a great asset, he always offers himself as an outball option even when pressed. Doesn't always work out as, particularly against energetic opponents, he can be harried but he'll take that responsibility on his shoulders. Seems to be relishing the captain's armband.

Never truly appreciated him before he played in our shirt, classy professional.

Same here.

He is one of those under the radar players one never notices until he is pulling the strings for one's own team.

I think Cleverly will turn out sommat similiar.
