Idrissa gueye has very similar abilities imo, reads the game well, makes interceptions and drives play forward

Sorry if this has been said before, haven't read everything yet. He's boss, and he seems to be growing, adding attacking play and forward, quick passing into his game. Just needs pacy partners to cover for his relative lack of pace.

Exactly! They usually follow a slip up by teammates. Loss of possession or someone out of position. If we get to the point where the whole team is playing smarter, he won't have to take as many.

Never a truer word. The problem will be finding a suitable replacement as, as eventually will happen, the time comes to replace him, it might be just one of the hardest things to do.

You can see now why Rafael was prepared to buy Barry and release Alonso at the RS. Not that I think he was better than alonso (class act) just an acknowledgement of how highly regarded Barry was and still is. Listen to the ex pros talking about Barry, they all acknowledge what a good player Barry still is. Hasn't relied on pace all his career (thank goodness) but has an awareness that few players possess.
