You know what I mean though. Gibson's a great player to have in our squad, it's a long season, I have no idea why anyone would doubt our need for him.
I don't doubt him as a player, I said i'm glad Martinez got Barry cos we cant rely on Gibson as a key player as he in and out all the time.

I'm not fed up of him at all. He cost about 20p and is a very talented ball player.

Well I am, he might have cost 20p but he also cost us around 35k a week as well, If he unfit again tomorrow, then I will lose patience. I have no time for sick-notes, I was the same with Rodwell. I agree he one of our best midfielders last season, now he behind Barkley, Barry and McCarthy. I'm hoping he can get fit and remain fit and take over Osman.

Leon Osman gets paid at least that and takes someone's spot, I'm not arsed about his wages.

what do you have against the word "is"

Gibson was one of our best players last season, the trouble for him now is he's probably the 3rd choice CM, or the 1st choice "back-up". That's only really because Barry has more experience and is generally a better player, (albeit by not that much, IMO), and because McCarthy is a very promising young midfielder who just cost us £13m.

We're going to see different combinations of the three different players throughout the season, McCarthy and Barry already looks like it has a nice balance to it, and hopefully McCarthy and Gibson can gain a good understanding of each other if they start playing for Ireland, which I'm sure they will if they get a manager who is even 1% less insane than Trapattoni.

Whoever out the three play I think we're in pretty good hands for CM. Much better than last season anyway.

It's part and parcel of getting a player for so cheap. Hopefully Gibson can sort himself out as there have been bits and bobs said about his lifestyle and that he doesn't look after himself too well. He'll be back in the Ireland squad soon so hopefully that'll help in some way.

I've certainly heard a few rumours about him too. He's still relatively young but being in and out with injury all the time surely he's got to think about how long his body can handle a career at the top. Hope he does all he can to sort it out because we need him, Barry and McCarthy all firing this year. I still don't see all 3 playing together but as has been said any 2 of 3 looks pretty strong to me.

What are your views on Alcaraz?

Thinking back to last season, if Gibbo was out injured it was Ossie beside Neville, Heitinga or Hitzlesperger (with Felli pushing forward to cover Jelavic's ass), unthinkable now.

Even our wide players have competition, Barkley & Stones emerging.

This must be what it's like to have a squad.

Gibson will certainly have a vital role over the season, the thing is the game he played at Fulham he looked slow and off the pace which is understandable given he has been injured and people have jumped on that. Hopefully he will get fit quickly and give us another great option in the middle.

i am on Jags...class's side on this one -
Gibson only featured in 23 games last season and only 1 this season -
he gets injured when we can't see it and then disappears without news for weeks -
last season nobody knew what injury he had and when he will return -
sometimes i wonder whether he does not suffer from other off the pitch issues-
the problem is exactly that - against Fulham he"looked slow and off the pace" -
in my opinion he is not the answer to Barry's absence - rather play Oviedo although both are not as good as Barry defensively-
our left side was our soft uderbelly before Barry arrived and plugged the holes

If we want to improve and push on for champions league we need another cdm. Gibson looks a good squad player but his fitness is lacking . It only leaves Osman who's looking Crap and then Barry and Mcarthy. I think a ball playing cb who can play midfield is ideal a bit like what capoue is for spurs or we could just get Honda on a free in January

Hopefully John Lundstram will step up from the U-21's for next year, highly rated within the club, he may have got some game time this year but its difficult to get two young inexperienced players into our midfield at the same time. Lundstram received high praise from UEFA after the U 17's European cup finals

sounds very much like what Barry does for us at the mo.

Honda is an attacking mid but would be a great signing on a free.

He can play deep but it doesn't suit the tackling style of our cdms. He could play on the left as we use Baines and Coleman for width
