Haven't arsenal spurs and Liverpool won things more recently than us?

so has Wigan. But they are not even "nearly men". My point is : Gareth Barry's decision is unlikely to be based purely on immediate financial expediency (imo). There is more than one ball to be juggled here.

Agents take a percentage. Whether or not they're best mates, if you were representing Barry, you'd be pushing the best financial deal to the front of the table. Which one he accepts is up to him of course.

I would be very surprised if he went elsewhere

Hopefully we'll find out in the next week or two.

According to wiki Barry is married to his childhood sweetheart and his agent is his best friend who joined Aston Villa the same day that he did in 1997.

Sounds like a guy for whom long term relationships are important and valuable - I wonder if he wants to go into coaching etc after his career is finished? If so I wonder if playing a role in our academy may be something that would interest him as part of a player to coach package.

I'd give Barry a two year deal and let McCarthy carry on learning from him. Hopefully we get some more options in midfield so he doesnt have to play every single game but our squad would be much more poorer without him in it.

Fully agree with this, he looked tired in some games last season, rotation is key.
