Very happy he had a good debut

Ahmed Hegazi and Craig Dawson will likely be the first to say Barry made a big impact. He made so many blocks that negated the need for the centre-backs to engage. And with the likes of Vokes and Ashley Barnes offering a big physical presence up top towards the end, Barry slotted in as a third centre-back at times.

When #wba needed experience in last 20 minutes today, one man stepped head & shoulders above the rest. Take a bow, Gareth Barry. Immense.

Good to see. I hope he does really well there. Very good player and complimentary about his time here. Would have been nice if he had joined us 2 years earlier.

Great to hear and not at all surprising. Good piece of business from West Brom

Good stuff. Hope he has a good season and smashes that PL record.

Will get a great reception when he comes back to Goodison, I'm sure.

Still disappointed we let him go to be honest. Sure, he's getting on but his football brain and composure was top notch and could certainly do a good job when we need to calm a game down. Still, it's refreshing to not have a player of ours act like a bell while they were leaving, class act and hope he does well at WBA. Massive respect to him as well for going to a club to play football rather than collecting splinters for a massive pay cheque.

Same. Rather he was playing here though.

Could have done a job this season, with all the competitions. Hopefully it was a gentlemans agreement and a thank you from us to let him go and maybe play longer elsewhere.

I read it this way too. He's got one, perhaps two more, seasons left at premier league level. Served Everton FC perfectly on and off the field. I wish him all the best for becoming the all time leader of premier league appearances. Model pro for Villa, for us, and undoubtedly West Brom now. I'll clap him on his return to Goodison and at the Hawthorns.

Or at least until Lookman racing towards goal is flattened with an adroit sideswipe of Gareth's formidable derrière ;)

To be honest, I never understood the fuss about Barry before he joined us - and pretty much pre-judged him as a typical southern pretty boy with a reputation bigger than he deserved.

How wrong was I??!!??

Really top class fella above all else. Never a fireworks player - just always went out and gave it 100% every game with some lovely tackles and passes with some nice vision - wish him all the luck in the world.

And despite the southerner in him - would be a great player for a role in the club when he retires. Defo a good man to have around the academy and youth teams to start with!

Apart from the job he did on the field, we will always have this:
