See, in the book I didn't develop any sort of affinity for Oberyn. But they guy they have playing him really made me like the character, so much that even knowing of his impending death going into the episode, I was still shocked to see it implemented.
 
The bearded Weirdo's editor dangled a carott the other day,I'm not biting or holding my breath! God forbid HBO hit the ending before Mr martin

The character in the book is quite underplayed nut like you said, the casting and writing in the series have him as one of my favourite characters. Pity he had to be killed off, but old George doesn't like a happy ending
