yeah the last episode was great i thought...religion thing is interesting but it has been shoe-horned in a bit, they should have had some more subtle references to it previously, seems to have come out of nowhere

It's gone a very off piste compared to the books, will decide if its for the best or worse after watching a few more episodes.

Thought the other Greyjoys would be in this series.

This guy does some ridiculously detailed stuff on the books. He has lots of interesting theories etc. His reviews on the latest episodes, are interesting too, from a book lovers point of view. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS.

religion has always been a theme in the series with Melisandre and the whole thing with the High septon, etc was always around. Just more central to the plotline now. Constant references to "the old gods and the new" from peoples oaths. Also discuss old gods a decent amount in Jon and Bran's plotlines

yeah the last bit of the last episode threw me off a bit as a book reader. Not sure if for better or worse but at least it keeps me on my toes not knowing whats going to happen anymore

This series has been great so far. Mostly because it has deviated so much from the books. I found AFFC onwards to be very boring, but they have streamlined the series nicely and cut out a lot of unnecessary plot. On another note, the actress who plays Brienne has gotten visibly better at acting.
Interesting. Your position is pretty much the exact opposite to mine.

I have found the increasing deviation away from the original books to be a disappointment, and I certainly didn't find AFFC boring. All the extra minor story arcs and plots added a lot of depth and richness to the story, and demonstrated that every decision made by a character, however innocuous, could have huge ramifications later on. It allowed for more in-depth character development and complex, interwoven storylines.

In my opinion, streamlining the series is robbing the tv show of depth and richness. Additionally, it is making it more likely that the show will overtake the books - Jon, Tyrion and Danaerys are all reaching points in the show that resemble the latter part of ADWD, but other characters have not even reached AFFC, or worse still have been omitted entirely - and I was under the impression that the show's producers were worried about overtaking the books.

In retrospect, perhaps the show should have been twelve or fourteen episodes a season to allow for more of the characters and plotlines to be included. The absence of the Greyjoys story arc, the absence of Lady Stoneheart / the Brotherhood, the abrupt end of the Gendry storyline, the wholesale ripping up and starting again of Brienne's story, and even more so that of Jamie Lannister - these things all leave me feeling like the show is falling short of what it COULD be. What has happened to the Freys? The Tullys? Why has no reference whatsoever been made to the Baratheon strongholds and lands near Kings Landing? How has Littlefinger's story in the Vale been so truncated - is EVERYONE simply accepting his version of events involving the moon door? Most importantly, Varys has a HUGE moment in ADWD which the show will now be unable to replicate, because they've sent him off to Mereen with Tyrion??!

As for last night..... awful. So many scenes that were rushed and plot lines that have been befuddled. The show presents now as if the war of the five kings is over, whereas the book is crystal clear throughout AFFC and ADWD that it is not. And is the show going to sacrifice all the interesting members of Danaerys' retinue just to leave her getting a bumming from Dario Nahaaris every other episode? If the viewers just want boobies then more fool them. (Although they are nice boobies, obvs). This has been a very poor start to the season IMHO, although if I had NOT already finished (or even started) the books then I am pretty sure I would just be lapping the show up with a huge smile on my face.

I think they are having to deviate so much now as they are quickly catching up with the books. I think I'm right in saying that by the end of this series on TV they will be in line with the end of the latest book. They obviously aren't going to wait around for new books as who knows how long they will take. So they are increasingly going in their own direction.

Not saying that is the right decision or not as I've not read the books, just giving an explanation.

I haven't read the books mate, but I still echo the sentiments about the shows quality in this series and the second half of the last one

Yeah that varys moment was huge in the books and i'm disappointed with them changing Jamie's storyline and cutting out Stoneheart.
although I think they avioded possible issues with the Varys moment later on as they just had Kevan go back to Casterly Rock.

The Sand Snakes actresses were awful.

You can just tell they're gonna sacrifice Shireen this season

Dany's scenes are boring as fck.

Can't believe they killed off Barristan, gutted.

This series needs
Aegon and the Greyjoys badly

Its been a nightmare so far, just all over the show at times. Barristan Selmy was getting interviewed on thronecast last night ( better than GOT) and was clearly as pissed off as me. The Jaime and Bron slapstick is frankly embarrassing. If it carries on like this they can shove it!

I might actually read the books now...still think its the best show on tv currently and when I was talking about religion i meant this new religious fanatics lot..seem to have come out of nowhere
