Tell you what’s gonna happen now. Bournemouth beat us at home midweek and those who suddenly went missing about two hours ago turn up with a bee in their bonnet as they’ve been completely and utterly licked today.

And right then dear pals, that’s when we feed.

The person you’re replying to was replying to someone else who stated (incorrectly) that average home form would have us in top four.

There is no “fairer reflection” as it was a direct reply to a factually incorrect statement. It’s not “fair” to change the words of the person to whom you’re replying.

If the OP had wanted to say “we’d be in the top four if our home form was the same as the teams in the top half of the league” … they could have said that; but they likely didn’t say that because it sounds stupid. Of course we would. “We’d be in the top four if we had the same number of points as Arsenal” is true but also very stupid.
I wasn’t referring to Arsenal, I was alluding to the other teams challenging for European places. If we had their home form we’d be top of the league in all likelihood!!

I take it you’re taking the average for the whole league. That’s including the dross like wolves and Burnley who significantly drag that figure down. We aren’t even in the top 10 for points attained in the league, even Leeds are ahead of it. The teams above us vying for European and champions league places average mid 20 points. I think that gives us a fairer reflection.
Yes - I figured that if I was going to use an average figure to work out league position I'd base it on the average figure of the teams in the league.

The 'dross' are also contributors to the teams above us having more points so it's not very accurate to dismiss their gains for 'dragging it down' while crediting the points teams above us have won from playing the dross.

I'm not sure we should by rights be in the top 10 of any metric. We have an abysmal dearth of quality beyond what is already a pretty average first 11 in PL terms.

No it wouldn't.

The points average in the PL for teams at home is 19.75 - lets be generous to your point and round it up to 20 pts.

Everton's home form has won 16 points which is 4 short of the rounded up average of 20.

Adding those 4 points to Everton's total points tally gives us 41 points.

We'd be in 6th place.
6th place is not top 4.

Our away form, as an aside, has won us 21 points. The PL average is 14.2
Pitty you had to go and look up league average and spend time typing up all that when you and everyone else on here knows exactly what i ment.

Good, hard fought for win. Once we equalised I was confident we could nick it as we were in the ascendancy and still had time left to score again.
For once we were not penalised by VAR for the winner , their goalie was too soft, JoB stood his ground and showed good strength, perfectly legal goal.

Or perhaps there are different ways of interpreting what average means and not everyone posts like this is a maths exam. I know precisely what he means and you're the one coming across as stupid/a complete dick.
