Current Affairs Fox hunting

If a prospective (likely) Prime Minister of a party came out and said they endorsed the savaging of animals in the U.K. then would that affect your view of them and the values they stand for?

It would more than likely confirm that ones original opinions of said prospective PM were bang on the money.

Scousers pushing for the destruction of rural traditions and industry. Disgusting.

The tradition and industry is still there, but now it's mostly a drag hunt. Most city dwellers have never seen what a fox will do in a hen house or chicken coop. A mate of mine raises cockerels on a small scale and the control of foxes for him is a big issue, but while the hunt is a big flashy gathering where they may or may not find a fox, the professional marksman will always get them. Fox hunting is not required for the control of foxes but drag hunting allows the country people to maintain a tradition. It is a mistake to allow this issue more air time.........

It seems out of place, but I'm a city dweller so have little knowledge of the impact of foxes on farm life or the best way of humanely managing that situation.

With respect Bruce, being a city dweller would appear to me to be somewhat irrelevant.

There are foxes in all our major towns and cities and one would venture that if you saw a group of Crimson wearing horseman and a pack of hounds tearing through the city streets blowing trumpets and yelling "Tally-Ho" in pursuit of a terrified fox, one might see the barbarity in the practise.

Just my opinion of course, as a former city dweller myself ;)

For sure, as I said, as someone largely ignorant of foxes, their impact and the best way to manage them, it seems a barbaric and outdated practice. I'm just very conscious that the next parliament will be all about Brexit, and it's important not to get sidetracked by things that are relatively irrelevant.

Would make me think twice voting for that party if they were the ones I was voting for. As they aren't it doesn't matter as I wouldn't vote for them anyway. Trouble is they will walk in in my constituency anyway so my vote hardly matters.

I have seen the it's tradition argument trotted out a few times. It's a stupid argument.

Traditions change because society see those traditions as no longer fitting. As societies grow and change so do traditions.

For example, bull fighting has now been banned in Spain that used to be a tradition.

To only do what has been done by traditions means society can't evolve or change.

But as others have said hardly the issue that's gonna be the main topic of the GE. But it does show up the Tories for who they really are.

Spain did not ban it. Catalonia tried to ban it but this was overturned by a judge who said Catalonia 'has a responsibility for cultural heritage' and that their parliament had exceeded its authority...

So it's still legal and purely because of tradition !

Fox Hunting discussions took up more time than the Iraq War in the last Parliament. True Dat. Strange sense of priorities. This is just a sop to the Tory Right to be called in during Brexit negotiations. (I'm against Fox Hunting in this day and age.)

Very true mate, all too very true.

It does seem strange though that she's thrown the fox-hunting subject into the mix yesterday - bizarre to my mind, especially to state she's in favour of it ?
