AFC Fylde vs Southampton
5th January 2030
F.A. Cup Third Round

=southampton result.webp

Andrew Jolley and Alan O'Neill were available for selection after suffering with a virus however Euan Henderson was sent home for having the same illness and missed the match with Southampton. Sam Allaway started on the left wing and Ryan Wilson made his home debut. Allaway gave the ball away needlessly inside 15 minutes and Southampton almost made it 1-0 when they rattled the cross bar from the resulting shot. Fylde were set up well defensively but Southampton were throwing everything at Fylde in the first half. Brekalo whipped in the corner on 31 minutes, Skipp knocked it back to Alex Iwobi who made it 1-0 to the Saints. Poor defending for the corner. Josh Ferguson came on in the second half to support the attack and find a way back into the match. Fylde kept the scoreline down defending very well against the attacking style employed by Southampton and with a minute to go Fylde needed the equaliser. Wilson played it wide to Bytheway who has the ability to make something happen, he crossed for Victor Oto'o who tried the shot first time and the keeper pushed it away. That was the best chance for Fylde to equalise but it wasn't to be and Southampton were victorious in the third round of the F.A. Cup.

Fylde could now turn their focus to survival and since Fylde struck a deal with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season to be a parent club, Duncan Ferguson contacted Didier Deschamps who agreed to allow 17 year old defender Kwaku Mohammed, a product of the Tottenham youth academy with a massive future in the game ahead of him, to join Fylde for the remainder of the season.

DF: Kwaku may be young but he is a solid defender and to have him on loan here for the rest of the season will hopefully help us battle relegation. I initially contacted Spurs in search for a Centre Forward but we discussed the option of bringing Kwaku here and it's a deal that doesn't cost us a penny.

AFC Fylde vs Reading

Duncan Ferguson didn't waste any time by throwing Mohammed straight into action for the visit of Reading to The Crown Ground. Fylde were three points from safety and would need to get a win to get them out of the drop zone. Henderson took the ball down well on 9 minutes and got it to Declan Marhsall outside the box, he played it wide to Jamieson who crossed but it was cleared by Reading, Fylde looking to take the game to Reading in the opening stages. Wisdom won the header and Wilson knocked it to Henderson, he played it back to Wilson but his shot was poor and drifted wide. Wisdom took the corner on 34 minutes and played to Mohammed at the near post and he headed against the bar! Fyle came out for the second half playing with the same intensity. Wisdom took the corner on 49 minutes, Tyrone O'Neill headed it down for Henderson and he blasted the ball into the top corner! 1-0! Excellent goal for Fylde! Six minutes later Fylde kept going, Okoroji crossed into the box, Bytheway won the header but it was cleared away from the six yard box, Wilson picked it up and was fouled on the edge of the box, penalty given! Euan Henderson put the ball down and wanted his second of the game, he cooly sends the keeper the wrong way and slotted into the bottom right corner! The Fylde fans are loving this! Reading could not get near Fylde, the attacking football was sublime. Fylde committed numbers forward but Wilson lost the ball and Reading launched a quick counter attack, McKue played it long to Roberts on the right of the box and he put it back in for McKue but Jamieson tackled and knocked the ball over the goal line! An own goal and Reading clawed one back. 15 minutes to go and Fylde proved to be dangerous today from corners. Wisdom sent the ball over to the far post and Tyrone O'Neill managed to slide in to get it past the keeper! 3-1! It has been a great display from The Coasters. They defended brilliantly and got the goals to win them the game!

DF: That was reminiscent of some of the attacking football we played last season and everyone clicked today. Mohammed had a great debut and Wilson and Wisdom have formed a great pairing. We needed that win today and we need to keep battling.

Millwall vs AFC Fylde

=Millwall result.webp

An away trip to The Den to take on fellow strugglers Millwall in The Championship. Fylde were very impressive after they turned over Reading and will be hoping to get something from a tricky away tie. 15 minutes in and Bytheway lost possession, Cheyne found Coton who beat Mohammed and lobbed Foster with an exquisite finish. Five minutes later , Wisdom took the corner which was cleared to the edge of the box, Bytheway took it on the chest, knee and then volleyed it towards the top corner but the keeper got across to push it wide! What a goal that would have been. Foster played it short to Jamieson on 57 minutes, he played it down the line to Bytheway and a nice one-two ensued with Wilson, Jamieson sped down the right and received the ball at the byline and crossed for eclan Marshall who rose to volley into the back of the net! What a goal! With twenty minutes left, Marcus Browne found Cheyne on the edge of the box who curled one past Foster to put Millwall back in the lead. Stephen Cheyne was having an excellent game today. Fylde were trying to get the equaliser and frustration was flaring, Declan Marshall went from hero to zero in the 90th minute when he picked up his second yellow for a cynical foul. Millwall were the victors today and Fylde slipped back into the drop zone.

AFC Fylde vs Barnsley
22nd January 2030

=Barnsley result.webp

Declan Marshall was serving a one match suspension so Josh Ferguson started behind Tyrone O'Neill with Fylde looking to be playing attacking football for the visit of Barnsley. Fylde are clearly involved in this season's relegation fight and a win would go a long way today in their bid for survival. It didn't take long for Mick Wisdom to pull out some magic when he curled the free-kick over the wall from 18 yards out to put Fylde in front after 12 minutes. Fylde kept the pressure on and wer getting forward regularly in the first 20 minutes. O'Neill almost flicking on Okoroji's cross into the net. Jamieson took the throw near the Barnsley area to Ferguson who held off his marker and played it back to Jamieson who crossed towards the far post, the keeper went up for it but it went over him and into the net! A bizarre goal but they all count! His first of the season! Daniel Batty took the corner for Barnsley on 53 minutes and Brighton Moyo won the header to beat Foster and get his team back in the match. Fylde kept the pressure on and searched for a third getting men forward in thr final third, Wisdom played it to Josh Ferguson and Fylde were looking for the opening on the edge of the box, Henderson took the ball and shimmied past a defender and lauched a wonderful right footed shot that flighted perfectly into the top right corner! Trademark Henderson! His 11th of the season! With fifiteen minutes to go Fylde need to keep going until the final whistle. Moyo sent in the corner for Barnsley to the far post and Ross Dodd put it past Foster to claw one back for Barnsley. A tense finale to this match for Fylde. Fylde were caught naping with five minutes to go and Bobby Duncan used his pace to beat Jolley at Centre back and blast past Foster to make it 3-3! Fylde were fighting to win it, Jamieson had his shot blocked on 91 minutes and Bytheway controlled the rebound and the keeper palmed it away, great save. Barnsley tried to pump the ball into the box on 94 minutes but it was cut out by Bytheway and he ran forward but his long ball forward was collected by the keeper. It was an end to end match and a battle between two teams fighting for survival.

DF: It had everything for a neutral, we should be disappointed with ourselves for losing a two goal cushion so easily and we paid the price in the end.

AFC Fylde vs Nottingham Forest
2nd February 2030

=Forest result.webp

A tough encounter for Fylde against third place Nottingham Forest. Barry Sargent got the nod ahead of Tyrone O'Neill with O'Neill only returning 5 goals in 29 appearances this season. Fylde had a chance to take the lead on 25 minutes when Wisdom played it to Wilson on the edge of the box but he shot just inches wide. Fylde cleared the danger primarily on 54 minutes but Kalu was allowed too much space when he took control of the ball and placed it past Foster giving Forest the lead. Ferguson took off Josh Ferguson and brought on Tyrone O'Neill with 25 minutes to go. Feeney won the header and Bythe way got it to Wilson, he played it back to Bytheway and he crossed into the box, Henderson took a shot but it was saved, he got to the rebound it made sure this time! 1-1! The Championship player of the month gets his 12th of the season! Fylde battled hard in the tackle and Forest didn't want to know, the ball went into the box for Josh Maja but Jamieson was judged to have jumped unfairly and the referee gave the penalty! Josh Maja made sure there was no doubt and put his side back in front with a powerful penalty. With Fylde committing men forward they created chances for the equaliser but were unable to cause any concern for the keeper in the final minutes of the match and it's a win for Nottingham Forest who move into promotion contention.

Ferguson changed his fomation to five at the back with the hoping of containing Wolves and hitting them on the counter attack. Jordan Wilson lost possession as he entered the Wolves half to Sean Doran who bombed down the left wing, switched the play to Hajdini who played it into the box for Gibbs-White but Feeney done well and forced his shot wide. Sean Doran was giving Jordan Wilson a tough time and tackled him and powered forward but Foster saved his rolling shot. Jordan Wilson didn't seem to be in the game and committed two fouls within two minutes of each other in the second half and Michael Oliver showed him his second yellow card reducing Fylde to ten men. Fylde have thirty minutes to get through. Neil Foster was having a great game and made some fantastic stops to keep Fylde in the game. Fylde defended well for 90 minutes but had stoppage time to deal with. Fylde were penned in their own half burt were dealing with the long ball coming into the box from Wolves. With 15 seconds left of added time Charley Coe executed a nice tackle on Duffy but the loose ball ran to Hajdini and he scored a low drive into the bottom right corner! The last kick of the game!
