Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

We're rapidly becoming the Championship whipping boys.

It's just not working. I've heard from a sauce in the canteen that it kicked off between the players after the Bolton game. They've all waiting for Marco Silva to take over
Bad rumors that Ward is new to this whole running a football club thing. Heard he called some mates at Watford for advice on how to navigate a bad run of form.

AFC Fylde vs West Bromich Albion
26th December 2029

=west brom result.webp

The boxing day fixture was a home tie against 5th placed West Brom. Fylde earned a 2-2 draw at the Hawthorns at the start of the season and will be hoping to find that same confidence to put in a display. Andrew Jolley and Alan O'Neill both reported having flu which meant it was Nathan Smith and Morgan Feeney pairing at the back. Billy Gilmour took the corner on 8 minutes but deceived everyone by playing it to the edge of the box to Sharman who rattled the ball into the top left corner giving Foster no chance. A minute later Mike Joyce crossed into the box and Alex Davies got his tenth of the season with a header. Billy Gilmour was controlling the game and Fylde could not cope with him. 42 minutes on the clock, Bytheway tried the cross but it was cleared but picked up by Charley Coe in midfield, he played it forward to Tyrone O'Neill who was outside the box and McGavin made a run into the box and got the ball into feet and slotted to make it 2-1! His first of the season! Josh Ferguson came on with 30 minutes to go to try to salvage something from this game. He brought the ball forward from deep and played it to Bytheway on the right but he was tackled just on the edge of the box. Ferguson went more attacking and put on Oto'o for Wisdom to bolster the attack. Fylde just could not find the equaliser and it was two early goals which done them here today.

Bristol City vs AFC Fylde
29th December 2029

=bristol city result.webp

Three days after their defeat to West Brom it was a trip down South to Ashton Gate to play Bristol City. Ferguson needed to put an end to a bad run of results but many had little hope of seeing a team bereft of confidence turning this slump around. Fylde started the match well and defended deep against Bristol City, they kept possession but were unable to make it count in the first half. Vince Bytheway was fouled on 63 minutes by Hawkins who had already been booked and the referee reached for a second yellow card which reduced Bristol City to ten men. Henderson came deep to get the ball from Okoroji, he turned and played a one-two with McGavin the played it wide to Bytheway, the away fans urged him forward. Bytheway cut inside but was tackled, Coe picked it up and passed it wide to Jamieson who was in support, he crossed into the box and Henderson took it down and placed it into the bottom right corner! 1-0! 6 minutes later Bristol City hit back with a fabulous strike from the free-kick, Major making it 1-1. Wisdom took the corner on 87 minutes but the ball was cleared, Nathan Smith won it back and played it wide to Jamieson, he knocked it forward to Bytheway who cut in and hesitated with the shot but lined it up on his left foot and rifled it into the bottom corner! 2-1! Can Fylde hold on? Seconds remained and Josh Ferguson played the corner to Bytheway on the edge of the box who shot with his right foot and skimmed the crossbar! A long awaited win for Fylde which could be the turning point in their season!

DF: At 1-1 we fought back and got the win that we thoroughly deserved. We might have had an advantage of an extra player but he still had to be at our best to beat a good side like this today.

TRANSFER WINDOW OPENS
It was exciting news for Fylde fans as 23 year old midfielder Jordan Wilson signed from Hearts. Duncan Ferguson was keen to strengthen his squad to compete in The Championship. Early signs suggest new chairman Kevin Ward is not prepared to offer transfer funds in this window due to financial restraints and Ferguson hinted in his press conference that there might be issues trying to bring in players on loan due to the club not prepared to add to the wage bill. Ferguson seemed agitated and looked incredibly frustrated when questions were asked about squad improvement and Ferguson is a man who cannot hide his true feelings. There was a feeling of tension in the air and when pressed on his relatonship with the new chairman he simply said "I won't discuss any private matters".

Norwich City vs AFC Fylde
1st January 2030

=Norwich result.webp

It was a new year and a trip to Carrow Road to take on promotion chasing Norwich City. Jordan Wilson's signing was confirmed and he made the trip to Norwich named as a substitute. Ten minutes into the match and Kurtis Humphries set up Nigel Masters to make it 1-0, beating Okoroji and Foster. A poor start for Fylde. With a minute to go to half-time McGavin done brilliantly to win the ball in midfield and get it wide to Bytheway, he lined it up for Jamieson to cross and Henderson headed just wide. Jordan Wilson got his debut coming on for the second half in place of Brett McGavin. Norwich made it two when Wisdom lost the ball too easily and Humphries got the better of Foster and placed it into the net. Fylde were pushing forward in the last ten minutes but were unable to break down a good Norwich back line. Nigel Masters was in fine form and played a forward ball for Adrian Harper to make it 3-0 in stoppage time.

DF: We are going to struggle to compete with teams in this league due to a higher quality of player these teams have available. We are an independently ran club and we don't have the sources of income some other clubs have. If we are to improve we must sell first and look to improve that way.

LEAGUE TABLE

Next for Fylde is a home tie against Southampton in the F.A. Cup Third Round. They will be hoping to pick up points in their next three league fixtures against Reading, Millwall and Barnsley.

Ferguson won't disclose private matters? Maybe it's true about the big clash between him and Ward?

Jordy Wilson is a cracking signing but we need more.

Really worried. We'll be back in the Vanderama if Ward keeps his money in his pocket. Tightwad Ward out!
Heard from someone who works at a leisure centre frequented by Beattie that it all started after Ward invited Ferguson round for dinner. Ward’s wife cooked a meal of curried sprouts and cauliflower with pickled eggs. Unfortunately Big Dunc needed toilet time during his visit and made a smell so foul that they had to preform CPR on Ward’s pet hamster.
No one was able to get to sleep on his street all night due to the dogs barking.

Just be thankful that it was Dunc instead of Huck the Muck. Whatever happened to the Huck once he left by the way? Dropped all the way off the radar.*

* can you spot the cryptic reference to 2 players who want out because of all the problems behind the scenes? Nod nod, wink wink.
