Fylde were without Josh Ferguson and Ryan Scott who picked up minor injuries in training so O'Neill played behind Sargent in attack. Birmingham were without star striker Zach Clough through injury. It was a good start to the match, McGavin putting in a good tackle in the centre of the pitch, found Sargent who fed it through to Henderson but his shot was saved. Birmingham went up the other end and were through on goal when Alan O'Neill pulled off a great tackle to take the ball away and out of play. It was Lee O'Neill who set up Kevin Roberts for a header to put the visitors in front on 14 minutes. Fylde worked hard to find the equaliser but Birmingham were glad to get into half-time. Three minutes into the second half Lee O'Neill showed some clever football with his flick on to the back post from the corner for Dixon to nod in! Fylde with their work cut out in the remaining 40 minutes. Bytheway tried a long ball forward but it was cleared by Warner at the back, Henderson picked it up and got to the byline crossing for Sargent who slotted past the keeper to pull one back! Barry Sargent with a rare goal! Wisdom took the corner a few minutes later and Sargent won the header but the keeper done brilliantly tipping it over. Birmingham tried to get back their two goal cushion and Alan O'Neill dealt with the danger clearing it upfield, Sargent broke clear of the defence and was one on one with the keeper, his shot was saved but he got a second and it beat the keeper and hit the post! Bytheway came forward but lost the ball in the opponents half, Lee O'Neill received it further downfield on the right flank and crossed in for Darren Knight who lost the ball to O'Neill but it ran free and Knight slotted to establish his sides lead. It got worse for Fylde when Warner crossed from the right into Lee O'Neill who made it four. Heartbreak for Fylde and a comeback very unlikely. 83 minutes gone and Okoroji done nice on the lefy beating Warner and crossing in for Mel Pope to blast into the back of the net but surely too late for a comeback. Two minutes later Birmingham hit their fifth with Knight striking inside the box past Foster. Birmingham took their chances today and the stats look better for Fylde who had 25 shots to Birmingham's 15 but the away side were more clinical.

=Preston result.webp

Preston were struggling and after sacking their manager Rollo were looking for an upturn in results but Fylde were also looking to pick up their first win in five. A big moment in the match came on 9 minutes when Henderson brought the ball forward and James Douglas executed a two footed challenge which could have broken Henderson's leg. The referee was quick to brandish the red card and Preston were down to ten. Fylde looked in control and confidence began to show through, Henderson dribbled forward evading the challenge on 22 minutes, he played it to Sargent on the outside of the box who unleashed into the top corner! Fylde with the lead! Sargent runs off to the Fylde supporters with his hands cupping his ears! The second half started and Bytheway lost possession, Jones got the ball and sprayed it out wide, John Ward played in Jones who equalised for Preston! Fylde were putting Preston under pressure in the final third, Bytheway got into good positions inside the box but couldn't get his shots away due to Preston's good defending. Bytheway switched the ball to Garrett who crossed low into the box in the final few minutes, Josh Ferguson took a swing at it and it went in! Fylde 2-1 up with minutes remaining! Bytheway had the ball on the edge of the box but was dispossessed, Preston got the ball forward on the counter attack, Lynch recieved it and ran forward with Feeney going over but Matthews was unmarked and receieved the pass, he put it past Foster to equalise! 2-2! The flag was raised on the far side! The goal will not count! Matthews was fractionally offside. The whistle blew after four added minutes and Ferguson punched the air with joy and a look of relief. Fylde with a much needed win to end their run of bad results.

DF: We got a rub of the green today, Preston were down to ten for 80 minutes and allowed us to play with more confidence. Sargent took his goal well and we attacked very well. We were fortunate at the end when they scored but if the ref says he was offside then it doesn't count. We are taking each game as it comes and the ultimate goal is survival. We have two big games coming up, away to Ipswich on Tuesday night who have came down from the Championship and then home to Coventry at the weekend. We need to be at our very best to take something from these games.
