Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

AFC Fylde vs Chelmsford
F.A. Trophy First Round
20th December 2025

=chelmsford result.webp

After the fall from the top in the National League, it was a chance to embark on a cup run and aim to rebuild the shattered confidence amongst the Fylde squad. Chelmsford from the division below were the visitors and Ferguson changed the side to give certain players a rest. Freddy Burton played right back, club captain Ryan Croasdale played as the holding midfielder, Sterling and Fisher played further up the field. It didn't start well for Fylde when Mputu-Kaluyituka put Chelmsford ahead after ten minutes, finishing into the top corner. Chelmsford's wide players were having a major impact, Mputu-Kaluyituka and Nurse were operating on the flanks and Nurse providing the assist for Skinner's goal and it put Chelmsford 2-0 up. Abysmal and embarrassing from Fylde in the opening 30 minutes resulted in boos from all four corners of Mill Farm. It was a walk of shame going into the home dressing room at half-time. Danny Smith showed some magic as he brought the ball from the flank into the box, jinxed past two defenders and laid it off for Townsend to have his first shot saved but finishing his second attempt. Dan Fisher done brilliantly in midfield to win the ball back and lay it off for Sterling to come forward, Sterling played it to the pacey Robinson who edged past the defence and slotted into the bottom right corner, 2-2 and all to play for! Chelmsford kicked off and utilised the wide play effectively getting up the pitch. Mputu-Kaluyituka played in Griffiths who left Hadler wrong-footed and after a minute conceding, put themselves back in front! The winning goal and it sees Fylde exit the competition at the first hurdle.

AFC Fylde vs Dagenham & Redbridge
26th December 2025

=DAG and Red result.webp

Ferguson was in a crisis and had to do something to change his sides fortunes. A three man midfield of McGavin, Wisdom and Croasdale to try to sure things up was the strategy he was going for. Fylde had the better of possession, playing a simple passing game and building patiently, it seemed to be working and the fans appreciated the football. The chances were created however there was not enough substance or ruthlessness to put them away. It looked like this side had very little confidence and the home crowd was not helping matters. The game looked to be heading for a draw and it would ultimately change the pattern of results but as Brown whipped in the free-kick on 86 minutes for Clarke, his powerful header was enough to hit the back of the net before Hadler could get down to it. Fylde had no option but to push forward. Two minutes later it was Brown whipping in another free-kick and Sims crashing a volley past Hadler to give Dagenham the result. Another poor result for Fylde.

DF: I will be meeting with the chairman tonight and we are going to discuss our plan going forward. The decision is in his hands.

Hereford United vs AFC Fylde
28th December 2025

=hereford result.webp

Two days on from the boxing day defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge and Ferguson was still the Fylde manager going into the Hereford match. The majority of the fans are behind Duncan still and see him as the person who can turn this around. Midfielder Billy Price made a rare start and tested the keeper on ten minutes with a stinging shot, unlucky from the young midfielder. Fylde were in control throughout the half but chances didn't come as clear as the Price one. It was slow build up play on the agenda, looking like Fylde were trying to slow the game down and probe for an opening. The plan didn't quite pay off and Henderson's terrible first touch allowed Hereford possession, Lamptey managed to get in and clear the danger but Aziakonou hit it back towards goal first time, Feeney missed the header allowing Payne in on sight of goal and tapping the ball past Hadler to give Hereford the lead. Ferguson ordered Feeney off the field and sent on experienced Connolly. Fylde had no reply for Hereford, a bright note of the game being Billy Price who made some good interceptions and played some nice balls forward. Will the 21 year old free signing from the Everton youth set-up be given a chance in the side?

AFC Fylde vs Carlisle United
1st January 2026

=carlisle result.webp

The league leaders Carlisle who were dominating the National League were the next visitors on new years' day to Mill Farm. A subdued atmosphere witnessed midfielder Glendon rifle in a corker of a shot to the keepers right on 13 minutes putting the leaders 1-0 up. Glendon got an assist with a nice ball in to Horne who lost MacDonald and put the ball past Hadler to give Carlisle a two goal cushion going in at the break. Carlilse were a class above Fylde and kept on the pressure, Fylde soaked it up, trying to hit them on the break, O'Neill received the ball and took it forward, Townsend was free in the box and a low ball in to the striker saw him make no mistake and bury it into the net giving Fylde some last gasp hope but it wasn't to be in the end and Fylde fell to another defeat. Fans were demanding answers from the players, the players were looking at each other lost and confused and Ferguson, hand on hips shaking his head.

DF: It's not looking good, you don't need me to tell you that. The chairman has told me my job is safe and I have the chance to turn this slump around. I am not going to make excuses, we have been the on the worst run of form in my tenure here and currently we are the worst team in this league. I'll say it to the lads and if they don't want to be here, that's fine, they can leave. No player is bigger than Fylde football club and if they don't want to play for the shirt then they don't get to wear it. It's their call. We've had some great players here over the years and these players don't come close.

Ferguson's words can either inspire or demotivate the team and there will be words said behind close doors to a more full effect.

AFC Fylde vs Stockport County
4th Jan 2026

=stockport county result.webp

Fylde played 22nd place Stockport County at Mill Farm and were looking for a turn around in fortunes, Stockport surprised nobody when they took the lead after three minutes, Alex Gilliead was unmarked inside the penalty area and hit a great effort past Hadler to put the struggling side 1-0 up. There was some optimism for the home side, 20 minutes on the clock and O'Neill headed in Smith's cross to send the home fans into raptures and really get behind their team. The atmosphere was electric at Mill Farm and 9 minutes later Fylde hit Stockport with a quick counter, Robinson got the ball forward to O'Neill who ran forward with the ball and played it to Townsend who finished to put Fylde in front. Was this the moment? Unfortunately not, Hamilton equalised two minutes later which stunned the Fylde fans to silence. Fylde showed resilience and O'Neill was pulling the defence apart to create space for Townsend, the ball he put in for his header was sublime and the cross bar was shaking after it hit the bar and went in. Fylde 3-2 up on the stroke of half time! What ever was said to Fylde at half-time must have been inspirational, McGavin hit a wonderful free kick on 47 minutes that was tipped over the bar by the keeper. The fans really rallying their team on. Ferguson played a nice ball to Robinson who had played very well so far, his wonderful strike into the top corner to make it 4-2 topped off a good performance for the wide attacking player. Fylde were brilliant in closing down the space for Stockport and winning the ball back, Henderson got it forward to Ferguson who played it forward to Townsend, Townsend tricked the defender and hit a wonderful side footed effort that hit the corner of the post and straight into the back of the net! A brilliant second half from Fylde and a perfect hat-trick for Paul Townsend who gave the keeper a torrid time out there. It seems his goal before half-time was the turning point in this match and fight showed by Fylde can see them kick on and regain that lost confidence. Ferguson is still not out of the danger and the board will be casting a close eye on forthcoming results.

I love you from the bottom, of my pencil case
I love you in the songs, I write and sing
Love you because, you put me in my rightful place
And I love the benefit cheques, that you bring
Cheap, I'm cheap
I'll drink the beers till I'm asleep
When you've gone upstairs I'll creep
And write it all down, down, down, down
Oh Shirley, oh Deborah, oh Julie, oh Jane
I wrote so many songs about Fylde
I forget your name, I forget your name

Aldershot, Forest Green, Barrow & York
Tranmere, Boreham Wood, Solihull Moors!

Macclesfield, Dagenham, Chester Southport ,

Chippenham vs AFC Fylde
10th January 2026

=chippenham result.webp

Fylde will be looking to build on the victory in their last match against Stockport. Fylde continued playing direct attacking football, Robinson got the ball forward to O'Neill who crossed for Townsend to head past the keeper to put Fylde 1-0 up after 22 minutes. Chippenham gave Fylde a scare two minites later when they had a powerful effort go inches over the cross bar, urging Fylde to get hold of the game. Fylde looked in good shape and their attacking play was wonderful to watch, controllng the game in the final third and testing the keeper at will. Okoroji put in a cross but it was cleared and allowed Chippenham to come forward, Moriah-Welsh bombed forward with the Fylde players out of position, got the ball into Freeman who only had to knock it past Hadler to which he did to put Chippenham level. Chippenham invited Fylde to come forward, slow build up play for Fylde trying to create an opening, Smith jinxed towards the byline and crossed for O'Neill who headed wide. The second half started with Chippenham kicking off and getting up the field to try and cause Fylde a problem, Mark Connolly was there to deal with the threat and launched the ball forward for the run of Townsend who beat the defender, took the ball forward and repaid the favour to O'Neill putting it on a plate for him to send Fylde into the lead. The long ball into the box was working for Fylde, Okoroji pumped the ball in for O'Neill who shruged off his marker and slotted into the net, however the assistant had the flag up to deny O'Neill his second. Fylde remained in control having frequent attacks in the second half, Chippenham offered very little going forward and found themselves slide further into danger.

Kidderminster Harriers vs AFC Fylde
24th January 2026

=kidderminster result.webp

Fylde had two weeks to prepare for the away game against Kidderminster with the F.A.Trophy and F.A. Cup fixtures taking place over the previous weekend, Fylde were looking to make it three wins out of three after their terrible form of late knocked them off the top spot and down the table. Kian Robinson started the game on the left and got an assist for putting the ball on the edge of the box for Ferguson to blast low into the bottom corner. Fylde getting off to a great start but it was a challenge by Tariq Lamptey on McGuffie when the ball was played into the box, Lamptey challanged and won the ball but the referee gave the penalty! Harry Wright - who replaced Hadler due to a minor hand injury, had the chance to keep Fylde in front but Sangster put it into the bottom corner, Wright being too late to get across. Kidderminster supporters watched on nervously as Fylde battled for a second, Smith putting in Townsend who's curling shot hit the bar and bounced clear. Wisdom was a key element in bringing the ball forward and starting attacks, Smith knocking it out wide to Henderson who cut in and had a powerful shot blaze across the face of goal. Fylde deserving much more from a game that seemed to have awarded an unjust penalty against them.
