Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

The lads have just got back from their warm weather training in Bolivia and apparently there was a misunderstanding with customs. Fortunately the drug mules for Fylde tip off wasn't a cartel code but actually referred to a packing crate full of mules stuffed with cocaine, not the donkeys in the first team.

But it's a common occurrence since the start of the weekly Bogota-Blackpool flight with Air Fylde. When will they ever learn.

Vintage Fylde. Haha. Never a dull moment. @The Penalty Box Dancer you’re gonna have difficulty pulling this one back

ROTHERHAM KEEN ON FERGUSON

Rotherham United are believed to be adamant on making Duncan Ferguson their new manager. Rotherham are currently 24th in the Championship division 19 points adrift from safety with 12 games left to play. It seems inevitable they will be relegated and they deem Ferguson the person to get them back to the Championship. Michael O'Neill left his role as Rotherham manager to take the vacancy at Birmingham City.

You wait for an update and then you get a bombshell like that?!?

Rotherham are in free fall. Rumours are they are on the verge of a big investigation into their finances by the league. Next season they will probably be hit by a point deduction and could do a Bury. Dunc would have to be insane to go there. Even Rotherham Ron at the bookies said he wouldn't touch the job and he loves Rotherham United and says he has all his coaching badges and is free 2 or 3 mornings a week and weekends so he could totally fit it into his schedule.

You’re a shambles, Ferguson!

"THE BOO'S RANG OUT AROUND MILL FARM

maidstone result.webp

Fylde's victory over Maidstone took them to nine games in a row unbeaten but it was Maidstone who struck first, Dale scored from 18 yards out after shielding the ball from the two Fylde centre backs and blasted into the top corner, Griffiths sight lines blocked and had no chance of stopping it. Mick Wisdom continued his impressive form and was enjoying his run in the first team, he sprayed the ball left to Garrett who had space to strike a fine effort which flew past the keeper into the net. Tyrone O'Neill almost scored with a header when his effort was fumbled by the keeper and stopped from crossing the line. Free flowing attacking football was on the agenda for Fylde and the level of intensity was upped in the second half, Mick Wisdom hit a long range shot that cannoned back off the bar and cleared into touch. Henderson got the second of the game, Wisdom delivered a corner to the near post and Henderson got in front of his marker to give Fylde the lead. Henderson wrapped the game up from the spot after Wright-Phillips was pulled down inside the box when the cross was delivered. Henderson kept his cool and waited for the keeper to move first slotting the ball to the opposite side. A solid win for Fylde.

Telford result.webp

Fylde needed to keep the pressure on York City and Northampton Town but the performance against Telford was quite poor and lacked creativity. Tyrone O'Neill and Martin Withers underperformed up top and it was the defence that kept them in the game for so long. Fylde were eventually worn down and Oates got through on goal after a long ball over the top, his first shot saved by Griffiths but was alert to finish the second attempt.

DF: We had nothing up top, very poor I must say. We have to do much better than this. I have nothing else to say.

DAG and Red result.webp

Dagenham & Redbridge got off to a good start after 3 minutes when Nya Kirby got goal side of his marker for the free kick and volleyed the ball into the net. Danny Smith had a great chance to equalise on 25 minutes when Sterling crossed early to the far post but the keeper got down to smother the ball at his feet. It didn't get much better for Fylde as the game went on and Smith had another chance late on in the second half when his header was narrowly wide, half the ground thought it had gone in. Tyrone O'Neill went another game without a goal and was booed off the field at full-time. A second consecutive defeat for Fylde and an opportunity missed to put pressure on York City, a lacklustre performance and a big change required to get a song from these players. The longer it goes on, the harder it becomes.

F.A. TROPHY FOURTH ROUND VS NORTHAMPTON TOWN

It was an escape from the recent poor displays in the league and onto the last 8 tie at Mill Farm. Third against Second and it was Northampton who looked a level above. Ferguson played the first half with a front three of 16 year old Lee Lofthouse, Tyrone O'Neill and Martin Withers, the tactical change had an adverse affect on the first half with Fylde looking disconnected and the fron three isolated from the game. Northampton broke the deadlock a minute before half-time when Collins scored a header that should have been easy work for Griffiths. Latching onto the cross from 12 yards out, the ball bounced past Griffiths who seemed to take a long time getting down to it. Ferguson made changes for the second half, Lofthouse and Withers being replaced for Henderson and Wright-Phillips and reverting back to two wingers. Wright-Phillips had a shot drift wide of the post from range when he came forward unchallenged. Shortly after Northampton doubled their lead and a second goal from Collins who got on the end of the cross to bury it in the net. 86 minutes and it was job done, Happe scoring from the corner with an easy header and Fylde exiting the competition in embarrassing circumstances. A very poor showing from The Coasters and Ferguson cutting his teeth on the touchline. The players can have no hiding place after this dismal display.

DF: Three defeats on the bounce and the same amount of effort in each. I'll deal with the players but I want to apologise to the fans who witnessed this and paid good money to see a competitive game. The players will be dealt with after this, they cannot perform as they are and still expect to be playing every week. We go back to the training ground and work on the things we have been doing right and have got us success. They need to show me this is a blip.

FYLDE GRAB THE WIN

sutton result.webp

On-loan midfielder Ashley Hammond came in for this one alongside Mick Wisdom and played really well, Widsom had a well hit free kick palmed away from 25 yards out in one of the first real chances of the game. Another free kick from Wisdom in the second half with the same reaction from the keeper, the ball moving through the air and the keeper could only push it away last second. It was looking a lot better from Fylde and the defence switched on. It was Reynolds alongide MacDonald with Feeney on the bench. Fylde built up slowly passing the ball around in the opposition half, Hammond threading a ball through for Wright-Phillips and the keeper getting down to save again. The time came for Euan Henderson to produce magic and what a great left footed strike it was for his 22 goal of the season! The winger picked out the top corner and sent the ball flying home. The winger showing the division he is one of the best this season. Henderson gifted Ferguson and Fylde the three points and it was a much needed victory to keep Fylde in the chase for promotion.

KICK IN THE TEETH FOR FYLDE

Boreham wood result.webp

It wasn't the start Fylde wanted when after 12 minutes Oddy knocked in McElligott's cross to give them a lead away from home. Fylde piled on the pressure going into an attacking style of play but lacked the necessary fire power in the final third to find an equaliser. A minute before the interval, Ginnelly advanced forward with the ball but was hit with an elbow to the ribs from Stevens and the referee brandished an immediate red card. The F.A. will be involved and a hefty ban could be invoked. It got worse for Boreham Wood when Matt Dolan lunged in late on Wright-Phillips and received his second yellow card of the game, Boreham Wood down to nine men with 20 minutes remaining! Fylde took advantage and Wright-Phillips found Henderson with a long ball upfield for him to dink over the keeper. Mick Wisdom capped off a brilliant midfield display when he lifted his free-kick up and over the wall and into the back of the net, straight from the training ground! Fylde now in the lead and look set for the points, Boreham Wood decided to go for one last attack and Fylde sat back happy for them to come forward, with Boreham Wod under no pressure, Casey had time to line up his shot and put it exactly where he wanted, into the back of the net. A point rescued for Boreham Wood and definitely two points dropped for Fylde.

wrexham result.webp

It was a subdued performance in mid March between two rivals in their bids for promotion. Wrexham looked superior to Fylde and controlled the tempo of the game to the frustration of Fylde. Lansdown was up and overpowering to win the header that got him and his side the goal and Fylde lacked the firepower to claw anything back. A disappointing showing from Fylde and not the time to play like this towards the end of the season. Tyrone O'Neill was poor in front of goal giving Ferguson reasons to be looking for a goal scorer. Some supporters would take back a 36 year old Danny Rowe out of retirement at this point!
