Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

DO FYLDE NEED A STRIKER?

Fylde are currently performing well and are in target in their bid for promotion this season but the goals do not seem to be coming for the strikers lately. Tyrone O'Neill has not scored in his last six games and Martin Withers only has three goals 21 appearances, with only five of those being starts. We could delve into the Fylde U18 squad and see 16 year old striker Lee Lofthouse already has 25 goals to his name in 28 appearances this season. The local lad from Kirkham who has supporters calling for him to be given a go is certainly impressing coaches Barry Corr and Liam Rosenior. Could Ferguson be tempted to give him his chance?
Lofty looks the business. I know that at Fylde Comp he had a reputation as trouble and is suspected of getting Miss Moore the music teacher in a compromising position in the music room cupboard but I think that's the type of gung ho give a go attitude we need up front.

And if you saw Miss Moore, you know he'd put his head into places where wiser men wouldn't stick a foot in.

Good to see that Barry found employment after being the drummer in that band with all his tidy sisters. Must have scarred him though, hearing his sisters shagging all the time on the tour bus whilst he’s trying to read the latest edition of national geographic. It’s that kind of ‘can do’ attitude that we need in our back room.

Get a drink in Bazza and he'll tell you all about his sisters. Filthy filthy minxes.

Andrea on the tin whistle. Could blow anything.

Shazza on the violin. Always fiddling with other people's instruments (nudge nudge wink wink).

And Caroline on the piano or should I say ol' Joanna given her taste for ladies according to Baz.

Apparently booked in for the Christmas do. Heather out of M People bailed even though she promised her big friend the Huck.

Merry Christmas Coasters!

CHANCE MISSED TO GO TOP

Hartlepool result.webp

Fylde picked back up after their demolition of Hyde and attacking winger Euan Henderson was back in the side after being injured and had a chance to get Fylde off the mark on ten minutes when he won a penalty for the home side. Henderson stuttered in his run up and hit it straight down the middle with Sam Lomax saving with his feet giving Henderson his first miss from the spot. Two minutes later, that did not deter the winger who slotted low and hard into the bottom corner from outside the box. Fylde off to a good start and refused Hartlepool any time to settle on the ball. Henderson got his second when Ginnelly crossed to the far post and Henderson was there to slide it home. The winger really showing the league he is a step above. Henderson almost got a hattrick when Okoroji crossed from the corner and he headed slightly over the cross bar. Okoroji delivered some god crosses from corner kicks, in the second half he found the head of Ginnelly which was cleared off the line, the ball came to Henderson who put it back in for Ginnelly who slotted it from 6 yards out to give Fylde a 3-0 lead. It was a complete performance for Fylde but Hartlepool clawed one back when O'Neill gave away possession and a quick Hartlepool counter attack got the ball forward to Gary Jones who brought it forward and was tackled by Tariq Lamptey but the ball rolled loose to Cole Jenkins who took a touch, lined it up and buried it low past Griffiths who could not quite get across to keep it out. Final score: 3-1

BLACKPOOL RESULT.webp

The return derby rolled around at Bloomfield Road on New Years Eve, Blackpool putting in a good performance against an in-form Fylde side. Blackpool opened the scoring when Townsend split the defence to find forward Bottom inside the box who put it past Griffiths with ease. Tyrone O'Neill thought he had found the equaliser when McGavin crossed, for his header to be ruled offside. The replay later confirming O'Neill was a fraction offside. Fylde's battling midfield won the ball back numerous times inside the Blackpool half but they just could not convert their chances, McCann going close over the bar from range. A sturdy Blackpool display kept The Coasters at bay. Fylde kept coming but were met by the defensive wall of Blackpool who were there to beat everything and anything away, all crosses dealt with and shots being blocked. Townsend scored a lucky goal after hitting it on the bounce but Griffiths appeared to have saved at his right post and keep the ball out but as he knocked it against the post it marginally rolled over the line, the referee signalling the ball had crossed the line and now a mountain for Fylde to climb in the last ten minutes. Second half substitute Danny Smith came close with his shot whistling an inch past the post, very unlucky from the winger. Fylde certainly playing well and unfortunate to be behind. Blackpool wrapped it up just before full time, Townsend grabbing his second when he showed some instant control on the ball inside the box, turned hitting it first time past Griffiths. Fylde unlucky to lose but it was a day they never took their chances and were not clinical enough.

Dartford result.webp

Struggling semi-professional outfit Dartford hosted title chasing Fylde after their recent derby defeat and Fylde were out to make a point. Ferguson made changes to the side that lost to Blackpool, Henderson was rested for Sterling, Kellerman started in place of Ginnelly and out of sorts striker Tyrone O'Neill started the game from the bench to give Martin Withers a start. Charlie McCann scored a delightful goal after whacking one from 20 yards out against the underside of the bar and Wright-Phillips doubled the lead a few minutes later when the corner was drifted in from Sterling and after a header off the line, Reynolds put it back across the goal mouth for Wright-Phillips to volley home. Stefan Doughty scored a wonderful goal for the home side after taking the ball down in the box, drifting past Lamptey and taking it round Griffiths and into the net to grab one back for Dartford. On the stroke of half time Doughty whipped in the corner and Lofthouse was adjudged to have been fouled by McCann inside the box although it was hard to see if any contact was made. On closer inspection Mccann had hands on Lofthouse and the referee said the striker was impeded therefore giving the penalty. Ian O'Donnell took the penalty but Griffiths pulled off a great save parrying the ball away! Still 2-1 going into half-time. Ferguson went 4-4-2 after taking off Kellerman for O'Neill, only on the pitch for a minute and he was back on the scoresheet! Griffiths claimed the ball from the corner and launched the ball upfield, after being cleared from the last Dartford defender, Withers picked up the second ball, ran forward and squared it for O'Neill for an easy tap in. A much needed goal for the striker to secure his 12th of the season.

DF: The penalty in the first half could have changed how this game went and Dartford showed incredible spirit coming into the second half, I had to go two up top to get that third goal and give us that cushion. I'm made up for Tyrone, he needed that. We're still in the chase for promotion, we aren't going away. Fixtures are coming thick and fast and we are doing well at the moment, the loss to Blackpool was hard for us and the fans but we played well and we're in a good run of form.

harrogate result.webp

Harrogate weathered the storm for long periods of the game as they managed to hold onto a draw in their recent encounter. Sterling got Fylde off to a start when Wright-Phillips found his team mate sprinting into the box, bringing the ball down with a deft touch and smashing it into the top right corner. Harrogate got their equaliser before the end of the first half, Ions drifting past Charlie McCann in midfield, playing the ball through the defence to Duggan who sent it sailing past Griffiths. Tyrone O'Neill got in between and beared down on goal but his shot was straight at the keeper and the ball bounced clear. What a chance gone begging! Lamptey crossed for Sterling in the dying embers of the match and thr winger put the ball into the back of the net, the assistant referee flagged for offside and the goal was chalked off. Ferguson was absolutely furious on the line as it appeared Sterling was onside and the goal should have stood.Harrogate defended deep in stoppage time and managed to see the game out under pressure.

kidderminster result.webp

Ferguson started the game with two forwards on the pitch, Withers and O'Neill but the fans distress at seeing them play grew tenfold as the forwards had little impact yet again. Kidderminster came to Mill Farm with the intention to win the game and got off to a good start after 22 minutes, Helm rocketing one past Griffiths. Euan Henderson scored for Fylde when the block cross from Okoroji fell perfectly to his left boot and he let fly into the the roof of the net. Wright-Phillips had a chance to put Fylde in front, McCann passing it sideways before thr winger hit a side footed shot inches wide of the post. Fylde came close again when Wright-Phillips sent a long ball forward but the defender headed back to his goalkeeper, the ball rolled back with pace and the keeper scrambled to stop it from going over the goal line! Kidderminster had a free kick in the last minute which was sent into the box to try to steal the win, as the ball went over, O'Neill had hands on Martin McCann and obstructed him from the ball, the referee gave the penalty and a chance for Kidderminter to take the points. Sangster sent the keeper the wrong way and the away supporters were in sheer delight! It was not quite over and Okoroji put in the corner to the edge of the box to Feeney who found Reynolds inside the area, he got his shot away and the keeper fumbled it into the net. Final result 2-2 and a point salvaged for Fylde.
