Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

"OUR PERFORMANCES HAVE IMPROVED"

Port Vale.webp

What a comeback! It was certainly a game of two halves with the second being dominated by Fylde. Port Vale looked comfortable and in control after taking the lead just after ten minutes, they doubled that lead on the stroke of half-time and looked confident of seeing the game out. It wasn't to be and Ryan Reynolds stayed up after the corner had been cleared and as the ball came to him on the outside of the 18 yard box he hit a looping chip over Siviter who was a couple of yards off his line. Fyle were back in the game and were playing excellent football. As the game went on they had Vale pegged back and left winger Oliver Sarkic found himself free inside the box and a wonderful ball was played in by James Hardy which Sarkic hit on the bounce and it floated into the top corner. 2-2. Fylde kept the pressure on the home side and went for the winner. A goalmouth scramble ensued in stoppage time with Danny Rowe unable to poke it home in the dying seconds. Vale were relieved to get the ball cleared to safety. An excellent point for The Coasters.

Mansfield Town were the visitors to Mill Farm and it seemed the playing surface had deterred them as Fylde were on top for large parts of the game. Defender Adam Cawley got the only goal when the ball landed at his feet from a poor clearance from the corner by Francis-Angol. A first time strike was enough to beat Griffiths and give Mansfield a late lead to which they duly hung on to.

MK Dons.webp

MK Dons are a side of League One quality after being relegated but Fylde took the game to them. James Hardy scoring a low drive from the right hand side of the penalty box. A defensive display can only hold out for so long and seven minutes later. Fylde sat with two banks of four but when the cross was delivered to the far post it was Denver Hume in no mans land and yards away from his player. Nesbitt got a shot off but it was pushed out by Griffiths, Hume failed to react a second time and Nesbitt tucked it home. Duncan Ferguson yelled expletives from the touchline at his left back. Six minute later it was Stephen Dooley who gave away cheap possession which led to a cross being delivered into the box, Clarke rose above Morgan Feeney and headed home the winner. 2-1 MK Dons.

Duncan Ferguson commiserated with his players at the end of the game stating it was his fault for playing too defensively and individual errors cost his side the game. He believes performances are improving and states the fans need to understand the players have to adjust to the league.

A representative from the AFC Fylde supporters club had this to say: "He doesn't change his system, he plays the same formation week in, week out and we know he has his favourites in the squad. You'd think a hard man like him wouldn't be scared to bench a few of these under performers. Danny Rowe has been missing for weeks! Why is he still getting on the pitch? We've been shocking defensively all season! Kyle Cameron is on loan at Dover and playing well, why don't we bring him back in? Feeney looks lost, Brewitt doesn't want to be at the club and don't get me started on Ryan Reynolds! Ferguson has to change it! We are getting sucked towards the bottom!

Some fans appear disgruntled but the majority are more understanding and believe Ferguson is the man for the job.

LEAGUE TABLE

Ah ha! @The Penalty Box Dancer !! Someone has stolen your idea and is pissing all over you! Time to up your game

WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH......

Fylde get going but not in the way we would like them to.

WALSALL.webp

It was a positive 90 minutes from Fylde and they done well to hold League One side Walsall at Mill Farm. Tyler Reid put in an excellent display at right back, defending well against Lewis Moore and also getting forward when possible to put balls into the box for Danny Rowe who had a header whisper over the cross bar. The match went to penalties and Walsall beat Fylde 3-1 with the only Fylde scorer being Danny Rowe. Mandroiu, McGavin and East all missing from 12 yards. Fylde sit bottom of the group in the Checkatrade Group with one point.

Wycombe score.webp

Back to league action and a stubborn Duncan Ferguson kept Danny Rowe leading the line even though the striker has struggled for form as of late only netting three goals this season. It was another lacklustre afternoon for Rowe and Co and James Norwood was on hand to open the scoring on 53 minutes. Wycombe were in control and a disgruntled away section aimed criticism towards Ferguson for not making a change until the 70th minute. Stephen Dooley went off as he looked exhausted to be replaced by Tyrone O'Neill. O'Neill had no influence down the left flank and it was 2-0 as we entered the last ten minutes. Wycombe were playing wider stretching the play, as Tyler Reid dealt with the first ball it could only find a Wycombe player on the outside of the box. Fylde were late to get out and the ball was played out wide for a cross to be played into Gnahoua who had the beating of Reid and made it 2-0.

Barnet score.webp

Barnet were once a side in the National League fighting for promotion with Fylde. Going into the fixture they were in 4th place and played like a side competing for a promotion slot. Barnet looked more lively and were quickest to every loose ball. When possession was lost, they won it back. Barnet opened the game playing fluid attacking football and the pace caught out Fylde as Clements scored a free header after a cross came into the box. Ryan East whipped in a corner which was cleard by Barnet to El-Mhanni, the midfielder hit Fylde on the counter taking the ball from one box to the other delivering a ball to he far post for Coulthirst to head in. 2-0 and Fylde were beaten. Fylde only got into the game in the last ten minutes when they knew they had to battle to salvage something. Sarkic played the ball out wide to Reid who crossed low for O'Neill and his shot was saved from six yards out. Fylde pumped long balls forward but to no avail. It looked like a lack of communication from The Coasters and looked a side ready to go down without a fight.

accrington.webp

An away trip to Accrington and Ferguson made changes to his side. Oliver Sarkic led the line with Danny Rowe playing behind him as a number ten. Wright-Phillips was given a start ahead of James Hardy and East and Croasdale forged their partnership in the centre. Fylde started the better of the two sides and kept Accrington pegged back in their own half. It wasn't until the 24th minute when a dubious penalty decision gave Sheppard the chance to put his side 1-0 up. The lead didn't affect Fylde as many thought it would. Danny Rowe looked energetic in his new role and Sarkic was providing the Stanley back line with a problem. Ryan East crossed into Wright-Phillips from a free-kick and the winger was shoved inside the box, with no hesitation the referee pointed to the spot. Danny Rowe wanted to take it but Ferguson instructed it should be Sarkic. Sarkic duly delivered and took The Costers in at 1-1. As the second half went on, Sarkic was tiring and Ellis Simms was brought on, playing his first game of the season due to being out injured. The young striker recieved the ball on the counter from East and a beautiful through ball played Danny Rowe in one on one. You would bet your house on it he'd score but the keeper stood up and saved well from the striker. 1-1 and a point apiece looked likely. 91 minutes gone and Wright-Phillips picked up the loose ball in his own half, he ran forward with no challenge from Accrington. A through ball for Simms to latch onto was put forward and he evaded the slide tackle from the central defender before shooting across goal leaving the keeper on his knees. Cool as you like. Surely the winner! What a way for Fylde to grab a win! A much needed result!
