Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

COASTERS HIERARCHY LOSING PATIENCE

eastleigh score.webp

Eastleigh held firm against favourites Fylde and the game could have gone either way in 90 minutes. With Fylde in a poor run of form, Eastleigh tried to capitalise on that and at times it looked as though Fylde didn't want it. Ferguson stated he was relieved to get through 90 minutes and extra time and the game was settled on penalties. It was easy enough for Fylde scoring all three penalties and Eastleigh missed all their kicks in a 3-0 defeat in the shoot-out. Fylde progress to the next round and will Mansfield Town at Mill Farm.

Fylde had to win to progress to the next stage of the Checkatrade Trophy and a good performance against Liverpool U23's was not enough to grab the win. Fylde seem to lack that final third quality at present and are not having much luck in front of goal. The goal came on 32 minutes when Hutchings was the target with a low cross into the box towards the far post. Hutchings had the beating of Denver Hume who could not get near him and he slid to knock the ball in. Fylde had no response and were kept at bay by a solid Liverpool defence. Ellis Simms using his pace to get in on goal but dragged his shot wide of the mark. Fylde finished the group rock bottom.

Before the game, the mood around the stadium was dull and uninspiring. Our reporters spoke to Fylde supporters who claimed Duncan Ferguson's reputation was in tatters and regardless of his recent success, a large block of fans would like somebody with more experience to take the club forward. "He's took us as far as he can. He hasn't got the ability to improve any further. We need change"

The teams ran out and Ferguson remained strong applauding the supporters before kick off, the majority backed their manager with chants of "We love you Duncan, we do." The game kicked off with Fylde exploding out the blocks, passing the ball around confidently and switching it with style. Danny Rowe played behind striker Ellis Simms. Grimsby got into the game and could smell blood. Russell Griffiths on top form to stop Grimsby taking the lead in the 26 minute with a great save pushing it out for a corner. The first half ended with rarely any major chances for The Coasters and as thr second half started it was Grimsby Town in full control. Fylde sat behind the ball and defended well hoping to create from the counter but there was nothing really to shout about today. Denver Hume was one of the best players on the park, defending well at left back and spearheading attacking moves. The game finished 0-0 with fans glad to hear the final whistle.

It can't get any worse for Ferguson and this result will certainly have the board asking questions of the manager. Fylde looked up for the game as the rain beat down in Yeovil. The ball was won back and quickly played out wide to Oliver Sarkic who had the beating of the full back, the cross was aimed towards the in running Danny Rowe who powered a header millimetres wide. Fylde kept the pressure on and all Yeovil could do was hoof the ball out of play. O'Sullivan receieved the ball out wide for Yeovil and crossed deep to the far post for the header of Gunner who rose above Denver Hume looping the ball over Russell Griffiths. Not what Fylde needed after starting so well. The game didn't get much easier Denver Hume when Yeovil swung in their free kick to the near post and Hume thought it was a good idea to chest the ball into his own net. An embarrassing moment and the player was completely unaware of his position. Ferguson smashed his water bottle into the turf and demanded an answer from Hume who looked like he wanted the ground to swallow him up. Ryan Reynolds lauched a long ball forward for Sarkic to chase who had the strength to hold off the last defender but his shot was parried by the keeper for a corner. Lofting balls forward for Sarkic to chase was rarely working and it looked like frustration was beginning to show as players found themselves arguing amongst themselves. Yeovil played some nice passing football in the middle of the park and this time it was Gunner who turned provider to whip one in low for Khan to tap home. Tyler Reid in no mans land. The game ended 3-0 and Ferguson must face the music.

A few changes were made as Wright-Phillips came in for James Hardy, Francis-Angol for Hume and Jim Kellerman played in midfield instead of Daniel Mandroui. It wa surprising as Fylde were the better team tonight and were very unlucky not to win the game after Ferguson threw on Simms and partnered him up top with Oliver Sarkic. Simms made the keeper work getting in on goal on numerous occasions but his finishing let him down. There were a few nervy moments for Fylde as those balls across the box always seem to catch them out. Oldham just had a bleak day in front of goal. As the game wore on you would have had your money on Fylde. Oldham seemed to tire and Wright-Phillips was causing hell on the right wing. Good attacking movement from The Coasters and a good solid defensive display secured a point. The chairman wanted three and will be disappointed he only got one.

DF: People seem to forget we are one of the smaller, less talented squads in this division. I deserve the season. I've spoke to the chairman who seems content but I know what goes on behind the scenes. There's no patience in football now. I'm going to keep doing my job until I'm told otherwise. If I get a few wins here and there and stave off relegation then there's no question, I deserve another season.

A controversial post match interview with Duncan Ferguson. The Scot did not hold back on his feelings. Many fans are beginning to think Ferguson's aggressive side is starting to reappear and hope it can spread onto the pitch.

The media are speculating that it could be game over for Ferguson if he fails to beat Peter Crouch's Leyton Orient in 2 weeks time.

COME ON DUNC. You have to beat that walking Peperami on and off the park.

I can't believe the boredom during an international break. Just Fylde's luck to have 9 Micronesian Internationals (grandparents) all on duty in the Pan-Polynesia Trophy. I hope they all get back safely and we get an update on the thread soon. Now I'm off to get a couple of hours of kip as I was up until 3 am watching Melanesia lose on penalties to a fairly handy Fylde team who were playing with freedom and exceptional verve under ex-England man David Unsworth - may I suggest him as a caretaker manager if Ferguson gets the chop?

FERGUSON PROMISES RESULTS WILL IMPROVE

It was F.A. Cup weekend at Mill Farm and The Coasters were in a vibrant mood as the players entered the field of play.

GK: R. Griffiths
DR: Tyler Reid
DL: D. Hume
DC: Morgan Feeney
DC: T. Brewitt
MC: Ryan Croasdale (c)
MC: D. Mandroiu
AMR: J. Hardy
AML: T. O'Neill
CF: O. Sarkic
CF: D. Rowe

With Fergyuson going for two up top he was hoping his side could be more creative in front of goal and things did start well. James Hardy got the opener when he turned on the ball just inside the opponents half and put his shot into the top corner. Fantastic start for The Coasters. Mansfield came straight out at the kick off and started to launch long balls forward but Feeney and Brewitt were comfortable and dealt with the danger. It was a tough half for Fylde as Mansfield were pushing forward in numbers but The Coasters got into half-time unscathed. Tyler Reid will be thanful his misplaced pass to Cosslet did not result in a goal as Griffiths got down to save the thunderous shot. Danny Rowe appeared to have found his confiedence and had a free kick pushed away in the 63rd minute. Mansfield equalised in the 78th minute when O'Neill's poor clearance fell to Cosslet who crossed in for Ben Battersby hitting a low drive past Griffiths. Fylde hit back two minutes later when they won a free-kick 25 yards out. Danny Rowe hit it sweetly round the wall with his right foot and scored a wonderful goal. Finally the striker breaks his duck. 2-1 and Fylde were hoping to hang on. Fylde dealt with every cross every loose ball, won every tackle and managed to get the ball out of danger. Mansfiled kept knocking and when you'd think the game would be over, Ben Battersby was free to receive a cross at the near post which he tucked home and took the game to extra time.

There was no much action in extra time as both sides were tiring. Ferguson urged his players forward but struggled to muster up any chances. The game seemed destined for penalties.

Danny Rowe stepped up first but had his penalty saved.
McRory stepped forward for Mansfield and sent the keeper the wrong way. Not the best start.
Up next was Mandroiu who put his penalty into the hands of the keeper.
Ward sent Griffiths the wrong way giving Mansfield a 2-0 lead with 3 penalties left.
James Hardy wasted no time and thumped one into the top corner. Fylde back in with a chance.
Carr ballooned his shot over the cross bar!
Ellis Simms took his walk towards the away end, being jeered he sent the keeper the wrong way in cool fashion. 2-2!
Ben Battersby put the ball on the spot and with a jinxing run up sent Griffiths the wrong way. 2-3.
The last penalty and Fylde need to score to stay in the game. Tyrone O'Neill kept his nerve with a nice finish into the bottom left.
Mansfield can win the game if they score. Lewis-Potter hits the post! Into sudden death!
The pressure is on Tom Brewitt, deep breath as he begins his run up. No doubt about it! Sweet finish sending the keeper the wrong way
Mansfield must score....Cousins steps up......it's saved! Griffiths keeps it out! 4-3 to The Coasters! Into the Third Round!

Fylde win another penalty shoot-out! They have made it into the F.A. Cup Third Round!

DF: Excellent performance throughout. We played really well. We have to keep this momentum now into the Orient game. This is no laughing matter, I feel my job is on the line but I have my own views on that and disagree with it. If I beat Orient, I get another week. That's football but what can you do.

The pressure building on Duncan Ferguson despite reaching the next round of the cup. The majority of the fans are behind the Scot as they cheered his name at full-time.

Glad we pumped the stags. Great to see Rowe on the scoresheet, the gutless flute. The fa cup third round! Unreal

I fancy going to the New White Hart Lane. Danny Rowe is going to step up now - I can feel it in my bones. Up the Coasters.
Heard he’s been hanging outside the local poundland like a billy big balls. Thinking he’s made it. He’s been wearing a leather jacket and pretending to smoke cigs but it’s just a vape. I pulled him up on it and he denied it but he stank of watermelon.

Big update tomorrow

Was just drifting off to sleep, my Fylde mobile alert started kicking off and all kinds of rumours are on the boil here mate.

Literally all the neighbours on Aersewype Street are on their doorsteps as I type this and they are asking all the same question...what time does the milkman come so we can mug him.

Keep us posted mate, thoughts with Dunc and his pigeons

Apparently Peter Crouch had an cosy one to one after the match with the chairman last week. This week at the canteen they've got curry sauce on everyday and a complimentary snack of a pepperami.

Who loves gobbling pepperami smothered in curry sauce? Abbey Clancy! Who is she married to?
