COASTERS HIERARCHY LOSING PATIENCE

Eastleigh held firm against favourites Fylde and the game could have gone either way in 90 minutes. With Fylde in a poor run of form, Eastleigh tried to capitalise on that and at times it looked as though Fylde didn't want it. Ferguson stated he was relieved to get through 90 minutes and extra time and the game was settled on penalties. It was easy enough for Fylde scoring all three penalties and Eastleigh missed all their kicks in a 3-0 defeat in the shoot-out. Fylde progress to the next round and will Mansfield Town at Mill Farm.

Fylde had to win to progress to the next stage of the Checkatrade Trophy and a good performance against Liverpool U23's was not enough to grab the win. Fylde seem to lack that final third quality at present and are not having much luck in front of goal. The goal came on 32 minutes when Hutchings was the target with a low cross into the box towards the far post. Hutchings had the beating of Denver Hume who could not get near him and he slid to knock the ball in. Fylde had no response and were kept at bay by a solid Liverpool defence. Ellis Simms using his pace to get in on goal but dragged his shot wide of the mark. Fylde finished the group rock bottom.

Before the game, the mood around the stadium was dull and uninspiring. Our reporters spoke to Fylde supporters who claimed Duncan Ferguson's reputation was in tatters and regardless of his recent success, a large block of fans would like somebody with more experience to take the club forward. "He's took us as far as he can. He hasn't got the ability to improve any further. We need change"
The teams ran out and Ferguson remained strong applauding the supporters before kick off, the majority backed their manager with chants of "We love you Duncan, we do." The game kicked off with Fylde exploding out the blocks, passing the ball around confidently and switching it with style. Danny Rowe played behind striker Ellis Simms. Grimsby got into the game and could smell blood. Russell Griffiths on top form to stop Grimsby taking the lead in the 26 minute with a great save pushing it out for a corner. The first half ended with rarely any major chances for The Coasters and as thr second half started it was Grimsby Town in full control. Fylde sat behind the ball and defended well hoping to create from the counter but there was nothing really to shout about today. Denver Hume was one of the best players on the park, defending well at left back and spearheading attacking moves. The game finished 0-0 with fans glad to hear the final whistle.

It can't get any worse for Ferguson and this result will certainly have the board asking questions of the manager. Fylde looked up for the game as the rain beat down in Yeovil. The ball was won back and quickly played out wide to Oliver Sarkic who had the beating of the full back, the cross was aimed towards the in running Danny Rowe who powered a header millimetres wide. Fylde kept the pressure on and all Yeovil could do was hoof the ball out of play. O'Sullivan receieved the ball out wide for Yeovil and crossed deep to the far post for the header of Gunner who rose above Denver Hume looping the ball over Russell Griffiths. Not what Fylde needed after starting so well. The game didn't get much easier Denver Hume when Yeovil swung in their free kick to the near post and Hume thought it was a good idea to chest the ball into his own net. An embarrassing moment and the player was completely unaware of his position. Ferguson smashed his water bottle into the turf and demanded an answer from Hume who looked like he wanted the ground to swallow him up. Ryan Reynolds lauched a long ball forward for Sarkic to chase who had the strength to hold off the last defender but his shot was parried by the keeper for a corner. Lofting balls forward for Sarkic to chase was rarely working and it looked like frustration was beginning to show as players found themselves arguing amongst themselves. Yeovil played some nice passing football in the middle of the park and this time it was Gunner who turned provider to whip one in low for Khan to tap home. Tyler Reid in no mans land. The game ended 3-0 and Ferguson must face the music.
